I met the women I wanted to marry in 7th grade. At that time I didn't understand my feelings for her. She took my breathe away. I didnt dare tell her until highschool.. She was beautiful and so smart, talented and creative. She was my bestfriend and I was there for her thru it all.

She had image issues because she wasnt stick thin. I tried telling her she was the most beautiful girl in the world but it wasnt something she wanted to see. She ended up developing an eating disorder..And it was all because jerks would tell her she wasnt pretty enough or skinny enough. It was so hard for me to just sit around and watch. She got so sick. Lost so much weight trying to please people who in the end would never be happy with her.

The people around her were toxic and all I wanted to do was be here angel. I wanted to protect her and make her feel like a flawless diamond.
Eventually I got the courage to tell her how I felt... And of course she told me she wasnt gay or bi but she wanted to remain friends... It wasnt easy not to have her but it would be even harder to end our friendship so we left it at that

About a year later a boy she was with got her hooked on drugs and alchol.The brilliant mind that once made beautiful music and peices of art was now so strung out that she couldnt even think straight.

In order to get drugs shed have sex with alot of guys... It hurt me to hear people call her a slut because to me she could never be that. I even got in my share of fights to defend her honor.

Eventually I couldnt take the pain of seeing her degrade herself. I left town.

Now years later she contacts me and tells me she regrets never going on that date with me because she says she sees now that im the only one who ever actually LOVED her. Now she wants me..Why now..

Hello. Sorry you're going through a confusing time.
Maybe she was scared of being bi/ gay back then. Maybe she loved you and couldn't tell you, for whatever reason. Years can change people, and maybe now she's trying to be her authentic self :)

Just start the relationship new like you know nothing on her you don't know what she is like. All you know is her name, age, and favorite color. Like a new friendship. If she hasn't change than set your priorities with her. Set boundaries so you wont get hurt again. I am doing the same thing with one of my favorite people from my past and so far it is going okay (: start out slow though

I am so sorry to hear this. I also struggle with an eating disorder (EDNOS)., as well as chronic illnesses. You need to realize sweetheart that you can not rescue her. Trust me, she has to want recovery & sobriety. Is she recovering from addiction & her ED? Maybe like me, she is just figuring out her sexuality. Maybe she was always attracted to you, but was not comfortable disclosing that to anyone. Talk to her about it and see what she says. If she's not in a good mental space, be her friend, but don't get tangled up in trying to "fix" her.

Something was going on in her life when she was younger. You mentionned a lot of examples. But what pushed her over the edge. That too might be found a bit in your examples. Maybe she has gone to AA or other 12STEP support groups or something similar.It is amazing how they can change people for the better. She is older and has made that moral inventory probably and has seen her short comings in her younger years. She may have made that list of people she has hurt and you were evidently high on her list. She thus may have a better idea of what love really is and who really loved her:YOU. This is just a series of possibilities that has made her as she is after several years of autodestructive behavior. The real one who can answer your question is HER. It seems she alone has the real answer to the question, "Why now?" Why not ask her that question? She apprcites you , more than ever it seems. now She is the one who can tell you why. Maybe you can start out as friends again depending on her response. Why not ask her the question you are asking us? :)

I finally asked her why, and she gave me a complete and honest answer. She told me that when she was young she never thought she'd like a girl yet she always liked me. She said that she tried running away from those thoughts and didn't want to make them a reality in fear of us being judged but as time went on and I moved she knew that she messed up because she was/is attracted to me and knows that id treat her the way she wants to be treated and id support her no matter what. She said that if we were ever single she'd go on a date with me and told me that shes never felt the way she does about me for any other girl.

I knew a guy years ago, that stated that he was straight. One of our mutual gay friends had a crush on him, and told him. The straight guy said he was flattered but he was straight, and just wanted to be friends. So that is where it stayed.

Straight guy was going through a really bad time, and turned to drugs and alcohol to deal with it. He was in several bad relationship with girls. Our gay friend stuck right there with him for a long time trying to fix him, with no luck. So gay friend told him they could not be friends anymore.

A few years later straight guy finds gay friend, and told him that he was the only person that had ever really cared about him, and he wanted to straighten up his life and asked for help. He also had decided that since gay friend loved him the way he did, and had made him take responsibility for his actions, that he was willing to try to have a relationship with him as long as they took things slow.

They had a good relationship for a couple of years, then straight guy, got back into drugs and alcohol, so gay friend told him that it was over.

What I am trying to say is, that you need to think really hard about this situation, and decide if you want to give her a chance. If so go for it. Just take things slow and keep your eyes open and on her for a long time. Watch out and make sure she is not taking advantage of you. She could just be looking for someone to bail her out of a bad situation, and is exploiting your love for her. But, she could also be legitimately trying to straighten up, and knows that you are the one person that loves her enough to help her through this hard time.
