To put it simply, pansexuals are different from bisexuals because pansexuals are gender blind. The phrase often echoed in the pan community is "hearts not parts."

Pansexuals are definitely the minority of the LGBT+ community. I identified as bi for a while until I began to understand what pan was now there's no doubt in my mind that I am pan and proud to be it! I think there are more pansexuals out there than we realize because people are unsure of what it is.

I think if you want to say you're pansexual that's fine and great, but personally I identify as bisexual.

I don't completely get the pansexual thing. Maybe the community can educate me. Is it that you're into transfolk also? Or is it a rebellion against the stigma attached to bisexuality?

Either way, you do you. I agree Daily Strength needs a few more support groups, I don't see one for Schizoaffective Disorder, which I suffer from as well.

I am fresh out of the closet, and I tend to prefer the term bi to pan for purely aesthetic reasons. I get that it is problematic, but pan just makes me feel like a loaf of bread (I took high school Spanish). However, I will say that it is sad that the erasure is so common because it made me think that I was imagining my desires to have relationships with women and nonbinary folks.

I would say we have enough in common with the experiences of people who are bi in the strictest interpretation that I would rather see a more inclusive name for this group than a splinter group.

I am also pansexual and thankfully I am fully out to my friends and family. I was surprised but they fully support me. Pansexuality, to clarify, is when you don't care what someone identifies as, whereas bisexuality is when you only attracted to binary genders, so for me i prefer pansexual because it is more inclusive. although if someone is not familiar with LGBTQ+ in general i usually just tell them im bi so i dont have to explain myself. for me this was useful when my trans boyfriend came out, as he was a previously identifying as female. so when he came out to me it was easier to accept since i dont care about gender in my partner. good luck to anybody on their journey of continually outing themselves to others.

I would like to point out that even though bisexuality, being a historical term, used to be about the gender binary and for some ppl still is, but many bisexuals see themselves (nad the bi prefix) as "attracted to the own as well as to other genders" and are not agreeing with a binary understanding of gender and transphobia.
