Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Right now, THANK THE LORD, I am sleeping much better with some melatonin and Restoril as needed.
I have heard of everything from Amytriptiline to Haldol.
On top of all the other things I have tried (Lunesta, Ambien, Rozerem, Trazadone, Sonata) one thing that did help me was good old fashioned Remeron. Doxepin was useful too. BUT I cannot take the Remeron because I would get up at night and eat, and eat, and eat. I would make myself sick.
Then there is always the benzos. I did fine with Valium for a while. A friend of mine likes Klonopin. Another Ativan.
Good luck, sweetie. Good luck.
Magnesium 600mg
Elavil 5mg
Gabapentin 400mg
I was on a higher dose of Elavil (10mg) and also on Intuniv 2mg...I slept great, but felt entirely overmedicated until about 5pm!
I take Thorazine 20mg, Klonopin 0.5mg and/or Benadryl if I am revving up towards an episode or in one...Thorazine knocks me flat for 8 or 10 hours.
I have mild TD---this is weird---but when I take the Thorazine, it gets better---until the Thorazine wears off---then it is just as bad or worse.
:(
or just benadryl.
maybe even benadryl, mj, and an ativan or two.
oh and a large snack or dish of some kind and lots of milk, haha.
There are a couple of OTC choices such as Valerian Root, Melatonin and Benadryl, these are all non-habit forming.
I personally am not supposed to use hypnotics such as Ambien, because I have Amnesiac Dreamstates and cut in my sleep....just loads of fun.
But, I only sleep for 1 - 2 hours a night and that's with sleep meds, without them, I'd never sleep.
That's my solution to the " I can't sleep" problem.
I was then put on Lunesta but that leaves this HORRIBLE taste in your mouth when you wake up that there is no getting rid of. I was then moved on to Trazadone and have been taking it for over a year. I get about 5-6 hours of sleep which I am damn grateful for, if my insomnia is really bad I will add some Lorazapem in the mix to help.
In the old days when I self medicated and also when I was going through chemo and radiation I got help with marijuana.
