A part of me is terrified of going on meds. It's like once I'm on them this illness will be really real, there'll be no denying it, no pretending, I'll have constant daily reminders that I am sick. And it makes me feel so weak. I've kinda been getting pissed and wondering why I have to be so messed up that it's going to take drugs to make me function like a healthy human being. Why can't I just be happy without taking a pill? Why can't I be the regular kind of sad without having to take a pill to make sure I don't get so depressed I kill myself? Why do I need drugs to tell my brain to stop conjuring up things that aren't there? Why??? I think I'm finally having my 'why me' moment. I was wondering when that would come.
Iam... Bitter and moping.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I am old and should have been medicated at your age, and monitered...and wasnt.....life can get tough no matter who or what ...
so take care, research, learn, relax....good luck people on this board will be a great help to you....they are great folks here
Unfortunately there is an ingrained perception that many people have around taking meds for mental illness but think about this.
People often cite the example of taking insulin as a diabetic about why taking meds for bipolar should be acceptable.
A better example is epileptics taking anti - seizure meds
- the "chemical imbalence" is in the brain
- even the meds can be the same - e.g lamotrigine and many other bipolar meds are actually anti-seizure meds.
Swallowed with a generous swig of coffee or V-fusion, too.
Meds taken with a Full glass of water just before meals to diet...
meds with a sprig of parsley to freshen breath after taking them....
meds with a spoonful of peanut butter (as a Chaser!!! or the meds will stick to the roof of your mouth!!)
You'll be fine. Once you have been initiated to MEDS, you are allowed a free pass into certain DS threads and conversations about how-this-or-that-med-gave-you-the-heebie-jeebies....lol.
*giggle* Seriously. Worrying is Highly overrated, and "I" should Know, having previously been awarded the title of Most High
Worry-er for at Least 4 years in a row :)
My feeling is that while bipolar is a mood disorder, fundamentally that's not what it's about.
At the root is an inability to control the chemicals that control level of arousal, mental energy.
So too little and it's described as depression.
Too much and you become agitated. That mood can be euphoric or can present as anxiety or rage.
The mood is just how it gets expressed - at the core it's no diferent from being given a shot of speed or acid - it's not about your core being - your biochemistry is actually poisoning you.
Meds are extremely important for us, when taken correctly. You will be able to look back on your history and see where the high and low shifts of mood could contribute to burned out relationships and even hospitalizations. Take your meds as directed and you will feel better.
Once I embraced it ...My life became about stability, gratitude and then I was able to reach out to others...It's a good thing.....xo
Or you are allergic to Questions, and these are Allergy medication.
...or not....I hear you. :/ (Me and my humor....You should hear what I am now tempted to tell people when they ask what I do for a Living)
Oh, Wait - THERE you go! You tell people you are being paid Good Money to be a lab rat, and take pills to see what they DO to you.
I will stand up and be counted, Sun :-) B\Hopefully one day I can help make a difference here
