OVER 120 RESPONSES TO \"work.\" ON THE DISCUSSION PAGES AND ALMOST NONE OF THEM VERY UPLIFTING. I KNOW REALITY IS PAINFUL SOMETIMES BUT THIS SOUNDS LIKE A YOUNG PERSON WHO IS REALLY SCARED TO START OUT LIFE LET ALONE LIFE WITH THIS DISORDER. MOST OF US HAVE HAD YEARS TO BECOME BITTER BUT LETS AT LEAST GIVE HER SOME HOPE. AFTER ALL THERE ARE SOME GOOD DAYS, AND MANIA ISN\'T ALL THAT BAD (ESPISCIALLY THE SEXUAL SIDE) ALL THE TIME.

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

i have had REALLY good luck with risperdal, personally. it stopped my mania dead in its tracks. just remember that if one drug doesn\'t work out, there are many others you can try.

I\'ve know a number of very successful individuals with biopolar disorder who are professionals -- doctors and professors. I have seen a number of bright and capable people having to change to jobs that carry a lower level of responsibility, because they couldn\'t manage the stress of their old jobs. And I have seen a few individuals who can\'t seem to hold down even an entry-level job because they cycle so rapidly. For some of these latter, it was a matter of finding the right medications and acceptance of the need for them. For others, it seemed unfortunately that there simply was no medication that worked for them.
The sum and substance seems to be that those who can accept their disorder and work closely with understanding docs find ways to adjust their lives to accommodate their handicap, while still enjoying the responsibilities and resulant priviledges in life. Peer support groups are also found to be very helpful to many. Years ago, there was an on-campus Bipolar peer support group at Harvard University, attended by both students and professors. For all I know, it may still be there...
