What character trait/s do you look for in a friend, mate, leader?
Integrity is way up there on the list. It creates a high level of trust and I think every leader needs to have it. Wholeness and honesty mean everything to me. I grew up with parents who lacked in it and that ruined my life. The void filled me with fear, gave me nightmares every single night up into my 40's and I'm STILL healing from it. It matters and I know that I cling to it but without it I get terrified.
Another one that means a lot to me in creativity. I can understand better in those terms even though I can't sing a note.

One of the qualities that I really value in someone is an open mind similar to creativity but more. I like when someone can be open minded enough to put their own differences aside to listen and learn from someone that is different from them without letting go of who they are or compromising what they believe.
It is what allows people from different backgrounds and walks of life to come together in peace inspite of their differences and learn to value diversity. It says we don't have to be the same or agree all the time to respect each other aand to treat each other with compassion. I think an open mind and the ability to see past black and white thinking is one of the most beautiful things that someone can have.
My FIL is such a bigot. Why? Well he uses his religious views as an excuse. Walk the walk. Yes, Jesus would be so proud to hear him use the F word to describe gays.
People who have a narrow view of the world bother me. When they won't evolve, they refuse to accept progress.
That is all I require. The ability to laugh at yourself and the world sums it up perfectly.
