Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I feel bad that there are so many other issues to tackle though at the same time. I can't take it one thing at a time b/c each plays into the next. I hate for our first big interaction to be what she can/cannot do... but I am putting her first, and all of these things matter when it comes to her own self-respect even.
Thank you so much for your reply. xo
But during my last episode (what i remember of it) my son went from an honor student to d's and f's.....but it also didnt help that he was being constantly picked on every day at school.
theres alot of moving parts to this one
There comes a point where enough is enough...and that's where I'm at.
like a day out in the yard/garden, or going to the park or beach and getting something like a lemonade or tea together.
just 'girl time,' with no pressure.
then maybe do it one more time, and the second time, (or first), you could tell her you love her (simply) and want to be there for her and help her succeed in school, because it is important.
not in a pressure way, for either of you, but in a calm and simple, just being there for her way.
tell her her age doesn't define her but that you'd like to be there because you know what it's like.
I'm going to have to do this as a one on one discussion. I don't want to embarrass her or anything in front of everyone else. I'll also have to discuss the new rules with my Mom though so she can reinforce them b/c my daughter tends to go to my Mom after I've said NO.
I guess there's a whole lot more to this story than just that my daughter is disrespectful. I need a whole plan of action for this to work.
I ask him:
"How is my illness affecting you? Be honest, it wont hurt my feelings at all"
"Whats going on at school? how are things socially? Are you having a hard time with the curriculum?"
Are thing changing for you?Because your starting to hit puberty, things can feel different, emotionally physically and its all very normal, i remember how it felt"
etc etc etc....sometimes its like pulling teeth but ive noticed even if he doesnt answer me right away, he subtly brings it up later because he feels like those conversations have been started...
i dunno...my 2 cents.
being a mom with bp is tough : (
Hes gotten to the point now where hes two inches taller than me and he tests his superiority powers.....nope
I ask her things, she lies. I tell her to do things, she agrees and then doesn't do them. I suggest things to help her and she ignores me.
The prize goes to, she and I watching a commercial about "Dance Moms" (that horrible show where Mom's put their toddlers and young kids through gruesomely difficult dance classes), and I said to her "I'm not such a horrible Mom, now am I?", and she came back with "Well, you don't want me to lie and say you're a good Mom do you?".
Just some things that she doesn't even recognize as hurtful to someone else. All she knows is to speak her mind. She'd have to take years of classes for me to take back the "speaking her mind" thing. She's accustomed to it now.
