Anyone on buspar for anxiety? My pdoc mentioned it last time but I'm always so reluctant to start new meds for fear of losing my progress away from depression or crappy side effects so I didn't do it. But now I'm wondering if maybe it would help. Anyone care to share their thoughts on effectiveness or side effects? It's supposed to be good for anxiety but I'm not even sure if what I'm experiencing is anxiety.
I have these periods of....misery, is the only way I can describe it. I feel emotionally fragile, overwhelmed, intense thoughts not necessarily racing but all consuming, I cant be fully present or concentrate/focus, have muscle tension, I catastrophizise, and feel internally and externally restless. It's so intense it feels like panic but without the physical symptoms. Sometimes its based on rational thought, sometimes it's not. It's usually brought on by stress. Sometimes a reasonable amount of stress, sometimes the smallest things set it off.
I feel this way when in what the pdoc has called a mixed state, but i guess to truly be in an episode like a mixed state it would have to last days or weeks? I've only had that happen once. (Let me tell you, that is the closest thing to hell I could ever imagine). These come in waves either suddenly or build up, and go away either suddenly or theres a lessening of intensity until the symptoms are gone and it only lasts a couple hours to a day. Would something fast acting like a benzo be better suited for more instant relief? I cant keep living with this.
Is this anxiety? Rapid cycling mixed episodes?
I never seem to be able to accurately explain the episodes to the dr so this time I wrote alot of it down. I see them tomorrow so hoping for some answers.

Saying that, this is only mily expierence and maybe very different for you. Personally id give it a try and you dont like it you can get off it fairly quick with this drug. With doctors supervision only though.
I have not had any experiences with either buspar or Xanax, but as it came up in another post, every med works differently for everyone. ellomalley said she hated how Abilify made her feel, but I actually have found it to be very helpful. Most of the tools to deal with bpd we find work for us through trial and error unfortunately. I wish you the very best in whatever you decide to do in this situation.
Sending love and positive energy your way <3,
Jess
Buspar is one of the lesser meds for Anxiety, it's less addictive, plays well with others, has less side effects than say, Ativan, Klonipin or Xanax. All Anti-Anxiety meds are going to have the possibility of drowsiness and can be addictive. Buspar is commonly prescribed in a BiPolar Cocktail next popular would be Klonopin. Ativan can be a littly iffy when it comes to playing well with Mood Stabilizers and Xanax is wildly addictive and generally not RX'd unless none of the others work, these days.
The good thing about Anti-Anxiety meds is they tend to work somewhat quickly unlike Anti-depressants and Mood Stabilizers, so you don't have to wait weeks to see if it helps you. You should see some reaction in a matter of a day or two.
Take care,
Kat
