when my son was a teenager of course he thought he was smarter than me so we both took online tests. our IQ was the same. that pissed him off. i loved it. one thing i will say about online tests ive taken. they have been consistant. wisdom and experience r more important in my opinion

and.social.skills.too.! and we all have 'blonde' moments! lol

Like for sure!! ( it's the only blonde reference I can think of at the moment!!) Nothing worse than a New Yorker imitating a "Valley Girl"!!

mine is fairly average or low. It's definately not high. I failed the test that would have got me into grammar school and I went initially to a Secondary Modern ( school for people that are going to be artisans, factory workers etc).

I'm baffled by the whole "train is to banana as the Poper is to...?" type questions and my spatial ability is low too.

I was tested when I was younger and scored very high and was put in all the advanced classes. I also scored the highest in my school on the SATs, but I can't remember much. I'm very good at logic and math and terrible at languages and history. The Lamictal doesn't help with memory either. Being smart can also be a hindrance sometimes also because I'm always looking for the cure in books. It gives me a lot of understanding, but sometimes that just makes things worse.

I'very always expressed my feelings with music, but it's very hard for me to feel and experience them in my body. I've been very lucky to be able to work with my mind instead of my body because I've never been very healthy.

Also, being smart can be a two edged sword because people expect the impossible from you.

I was tested in high school as a screening to get into advance coursework and scored very high. Scary high.

When I was tested again in graduate school, after years of bp-ness and diagnosis and medication... my score dropped almost FIFTY points.

So.

Double the usual...200? At least (ha, ha- the last time- ages ago it was 139? I'm sure it has grown with age)...doesn't make anything easier, just more difficult. It's like having a doubledge sword and not being able to use it. Except for stubbing yourself...

Had it done once in the late '80s. Full psych evaluation. Ink blots and all. Not a genius...somebody else's loss not mine. Was an honorary member of a mensa for a year or so.

Only because my ideals intrigued them and were great fodder for some intense debate for a time. Until they saw the error of their ways and the danger of such discussion after considering personal consequences what with the growing scope of Homeland Security and the NSA.

Persona non grata was the best way to describe how I felt after their light bulb moment currented throughout the group. Still I know some were still itching to keep the debate going but alas it was to be mine and not their ass.

Smart people, even if some seemed a bit "specialized" in their thinking and rarely deviated from their own expertise.

Oh...did I mention I didn't care? Doesn't take a brainiac to be a brain surgeon. Just a piece of paper and a steady hand. Much like a heavy equipment operator. Or a decent school teacher.

We all shine on in our own special way and sometimes we only shine for the few and not the many.

i was tested in school but they never told us. u were either in a smart class or not. they used it as a tool for placement purposes. or i was too stoned to remember(possible). too fucking smart for my own good. school was boring and i found other things to do. as with words, actions speak louder than IQ scores

I have always scored high on tests but it doesn't always help to have smarts. I always felt a great pressure on me to perform well at school & university & also put pressure on myself because I was a bit of a perfectionist. This was all before I was dx'd with bp. I still have the same smarts but I don't always use them like I could. I have made choices that weren't smart just like most people do. I'm just human like everyone else. Smarts or no smarts people all have positive & negative qualities, it's human nature & nothing to do with bp. I think sometimes we feel a lot smarter or creative because our brains go off on hypomanic tangents lol!

Intelligence is your abstract thoughts, understanding, self-awareness, your ability to communicate and to reason, and problem solving abilities. No matter how high you score, that number doesn't represent how successful you will be, how your genes and environmental factors will effect you..etc. Most of those test don't take into consideration social intelligence, emotional intelligence, or what you get from interactions with other people. Anyway, that is what they taught me in psychology class. I tend to agree with it. I think I am intelligent in some areas but not others and whatever my number is can't dictate how successful I will be because I am just motivated. Yes, sometimes by mania, but hey, Ill take motivation where ever I can get it. I think if you are really creative and get manic it can bring out that creativity but if you aren't creative, mania won't make you that way. I have talked to really smart bp people and some that didn't seem so smart, but either way....it just doesn't seem too important to me :)

You ever take the Myers-Briggs personality test? I get a different answer every time, just think that's funny.
