Well I've been on my combo for over six months this now. Celexa, Zyprexa, Lithium. Doc just added a low dose of Prozac and we're going to wean off the celexa and lift up the Prozac in a couple weeks. I like the Zyprexa though.

I was on serial
Seroquel at night and lamictal at morning for several years. I've recently had two others added. Prazosin for nightmares (helps to sleep if not constantly woken up by nightmares) and tegretol day and night.
Differences are there, but still adjusting.

Have you been diagnosed BiPolar? Generally, actually, always BiPolar's are not given just an Anti-Depressant, we can't, if we take just an Anti-Depressant without a Mood Stabilizer it causes us to go Manic. You don't sound Manic.

I've had BP for 27 years and have used pretty much every med combo out there, currently my cocktail is:

Tegretol
Klonopin
Celexa
Topomax
Vistaril

and I'm very stable on that combo. If you're doing okay on just Lexapro, I would seriously consider a 2nd opinion for a Diagnosis of Unipolar Depression vs. BiPolar Depression...

I was on Lexapro and Amblify....for me, it did nothing. I am now on Prozac (generic) and Geodon (generic)...I feel ok most of the time. I get very vivid dreams. They are really something. Rapid scene changes, lots of details...I wake up like my brain has been getting exercise. When I wake, I feel ok and alert and relaxed..dunno. I think I read it was the Geodon that may make vivid dreams.

ditto OldPer - people diagnosed with bipolar usually aren't put on just an anti-depressant, especially an SSRI as there is a danger of it triggering mania. Even if it doesn't there is some evidence that bipolar depression isn't the same as unipolar depression and therefore ordinary anti-depressants have no affect.

I used to be on Lithium, now I am on lamortrigine with a side order of quietapine when required.

200 mg seroquel is my maintenance drug. I have ambien and Ativan to take as needed (but never together) and like fish, increase my seroquel with pdocs assistance if mania starts to intrude.

I'm on Seroquel, Tegretol, Temazepam for sleep as well Gabapentin for sleep.... I really struggle with not sleeping and always have

Sleep is my #1 issue always has been that is the precursor of all mood changeNever found a mood stabilizer that would work past a few months my body is expert at breaking them down. So....

These seem to work pretty good all together for me.

Acuriousfish...not just evidence...BiPolar Depression and UniPolar Depression are 2 completely different animals. They're treated differently, managed differently, meds different....people tend to think "Depression is Depression" but its not.

The most important factor being that if your BiPolar your dealing with 2 parts of 1 disease, mania and depression. Both sides have to be treated, both sides have to be managed/medicated. Its harder to manage as there are opposite symptoms going on with 2 parallel behaviors. 1 tends to be dormant while the other is dominant. Medications often change depending on which behavior is Dominant. With BiPolar Depression Suicidal tendencies and ideation are up to 30% more prevalent than managed UniPolar Depression....

Okay, don't want to teach a class here. lol If someone is mis-diagnosed, and gets the Diagnosis corrected, its pretty important to do your research and learn the differences between the 2.

I'm being a guinea pig at the moment. Because of med problems and side effects I am now only on Lithium. Scary, no? No APs, no ADs....just Lithium. So far so good. I see pdoc in 2 weeks to measure my progress. If I get depressed he will immediately put me on Wellbutrin.
I havent' been on only Lithium since I was first diagnosed 32 years ago. Just watching my mood now to see if I go downhill. Wish me luck.

I have not been diagnosed BP, however, I have been diagnosed with Severe Anxiety and depression, I was on Lexapro 20MG and Hydroxyzine and they have been an awful combination, and have bad interactions...I have been really happy and then I get really depressed within minutes fir no reason at all...

@HearMe13: Well your on an Anti-Depressant and an Anti-Histamine.....not anything for Anxiety. Vistaril (Hydroxizine) is usually RX'd to help with sleep. Have you talked with your Pdoc about and actual Anxiety med like Klonopin or one of its brothers?

Adding to it? On your own or is pdoc in agreement. All the pdrugs work differently on each person. It's hard to say what would work for you until you try a few. Good luck.
