Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
It is important to know, that even when you are doing relatively well, staying on your meds will help keep you from having further episodes of depression and/or mania, as well as keep them from being as severe. Although, the meds will not stop them althogether. Also, your risk of suicide is significantly lowered if you stay on your meds.
It can take several weeks for your body to get adjusted to the meds. So give them a chance to work before you give up on them.
Do you know, or did your dr. tell you, just what those severe side effects were?
The tiredness and lack of coordination may lessen, or even go away after your body gets used to your medication. But in the meantime, can someone help you, if you need it, with things like driving that you may need to avoid for a while?
My side effects were/are drowsiness, dizziness, feeling like I had a shot of novicane in my mouth... my tongue would feel funny... I would feel almost drunk.. Like my speech wasn't going to make any sense when it came out of my mouth..... couldn't think clearly. So I'll stick with this lower dose for a while longer.
