What do docs do when you're hypomanic/manic?

Pdoc prescribed sertaline (zoloft) after abilify and seroquel both didn't work out.

But since i've been on it i've felt my mood going up and up. Amount of sleep going down and down.

But i'm actually quite enjoying it, i'm feeling a lot more energetic and happy. I feel creative. Started a little project of 'paper land' making paper chains and snowflakes and planes and origami swans, decorating them, but going it on the quiet so i can make loads and when my mum's sleeping put them in all the rooms as a surprise.

I'm generally just running around the house like a madman, going a million miles an hour. Good things are happening. Having a BBQ tomorrow. Seeing family. Looking for a holiday. Or fun, exciting things to do.

What would my pdoc do about this if i told her about it?

Hi Jellybean, My psy/d told me the difference between manic and hypomanic is manic is when you are so manic to the point that it causes problems in your every day life. Manic is just when you have alot of energy but you are ok with it.Be sure and tell you pdoc about all of this so you can be helped appropriately. good luck , your hypomanic friend , Luan

talk to them - while seroquel and abilify should have cut the hypomania the sertraline being an SSRI will actually make it worse. What an earth were they thinking?

Please talk to your pdoc before this goes too far. Generally the further you go up and harder and deeper you come down.

I think your own personal history would dictate whether or not you and your do should be concerned. In my own case I can safely be hypomanic for a short period of time. My pdoc doesn't change my meds unless/until I begin having some sort of problem such as an inability to focus or anger. If you're concerned its probably best to tell your doc - better safe than sorry.

I agree with a curious fish. I am on Lithium and Abilify but am still taking Celexa, Wellbutrin and Vyvanse (For ADD) . Since I have been taking Celexa, Wellbutrin and Vyvanse for years, I was misdiagnosed with depression when I was really bipolar. We are going to wean of the Celexa. I too have felt super manic, not sleeping and have loads of energy. Cleaned 2 of our bathrooms this morning. but wish I could run around the block if itwasn't raining. Talk you your doctor about going off the anti depressants.

Enjoy the hell out of your hypomania, that is what I do. I also finish past projects and then start a million new ones which don't get finished until my next hypomanic experience.
