Wellbuteran Question

Hey all a friend of mine just started welbuteran and is a week in. He is experiencing loss of appitite which is good but unsure if it is doing anything else. I believe I see a positive change in his actions as he is becoming very productive the last couple of days and doesn't seem so far down on stress issues.

Just wondering what he should expect to see as his dose increases and how else it may effect him any advice or information would be greatly appriciated.

Hi there,

I'm on Wellbutrin 300mg and it takes about two weeks for most people to take effect. I find that if I take it in the morning or afternoon, it doesn't keep me up at night. It helps keep me a bit more "level" if you will. Everyone is different so good luck!

I took it for 10 years...just became immune and had to move on...my usual dose was 150mg of the SR version twice a day. I will warn you when I became immune and asked the pdoc to up the dose to 450mg sr a day he refused saying there was a risk of seizure at that dose. I think it's a good medicine I just wouldn't go over the 300mg a day

I take 450mg every morning and have had no problems. It has been a good med for my depression. It can take a few weeks to start working so tell your friend to be patient.

Since you are seeking info for a "friend", I will share the info of my bff, my spouse---He tried it for unipolar depression. He was on it about 45 days. Horrible side effects---dizzy, bad taste in mouth, nausea and worst of all a constant semi hard erection. It was like living with a semi- horny zombie man.

Sorry if this is TMI, but it was a bad experience for him and me too and I thought your "friend" would want to know. lol.

thanks for the input all I think I am seeing him becoming more stable on it after a week and a half he has definatly lost the appitite but is still having sleep issues.

I have been on it a very long time with very good results. Trust me, his appetite will adjust. My appetite decreased for about a year and then went back to normal. I have to take it first thing in the morning or I will have trouble sleeping. I know people that had alot of anxiety issues and increased blood pressure problems with it but I never had those problems either. The main symptoms it helped for me was my "agitation", "reaction", and "dysphoria".

Wellbutrin made me manic

I hear it helps a lot of people quit smoking, I'm jealous!

Wellbutrin can be great. But, you've got to be very careful to have lots of mood stabilizers in effect, for me eventually it just led to mania, as most anti depressants have. But, with a good front line of mood stabilizers introduced and the wellbutrin titrated up slowly this should hopefully be able to be looked out for.
