Waiting on Disability

I know there have been a lot of posts about disability but here's another one. I really don't understand how people live if they can't work and have no family or income. I guess they end up on the street like our friend Heretic.

I get that some people are scam artists but none of us are so the disability process is so frustrating. I can't collect umemployment because I'm not healthy enough to look for a job but my disability got denied because they think I'm well enough to work. WTF.

I applied back in November and got denied in March so I got a lawyer. I expect to get denied a second time and then I'll have to go in front of a judge.I haven't been able to work since last May. My t doc said she was surprised I got turned down due to my multiple medical conditions. I'm so frustrated. I'm basically putting my mom in debt until I have some type of income. Sorry just venting but I'm so sick over it.

hang in there - the months between are very frustrating, in some places you can apply for general assistance - many states no longer have that option they have TANF instead and if you don't have kids you're up the creek without a paddle. try united way and all the social services agencies, they may not be able to help much, some may not be able to help at all, but you'll feel a little better making an effort to help yourself while you wait for the sloooooooooow wheels of the disability system to turn to your advantage. good luck! i hope you'll get your disability without having to wait and go for an ALS hearing. those, i can tell you from experience, are a reall pain in the tookus.

Check with Social Security. you can work part time while you are waiting. There is a lot of misinformation in this regard.

There will be limits to what you can make, that limit will be based on your eventual benefit amount , so that means some people will be able to earn more per month. It's just depends on your circumstances

When I first applied for disability there were no payments for 6 months but the state kicked in to provide some income during those 6 months. This was many years ago, pre-Reagan and I'm not sure how it all works now. Have patience and be glad you have family that cares about you.

Thank you. I'll try to stay postive. I'm very grateful for my family helping me but the guilt of it is making me sick. My cat just got diagnosed with diabetes and chronic UTI so her insulin and meds are an added expense.

I tried to apply for foid stamps but since I live with my boyfriend they count his income.

I'd love to work part time but my cardiologist and t doc don't think I can get. That's what really makes me angry. My cardiologist and p doc both wrote letters explaining why I can't work and I still got denied. So frustrating.

Yeah it's frustrating for sure Redsgal but don't lose hope.

Your chances improve considerably when you go in front of a Judge.

It's frustrating, annoying, and the stuff ulcers are made over. Your job?
Is to remain above it and trust and believe. This is your money and you are not trying to bilk the system this is something you deserve!

Thank God you have a mother who is willing to help you!

I had to beg my dad's live in girlfriend to let me move back into the house I grew up in. I never understood ssa's reasoning in taking so long to let people have disability who need's it.

Well Red you're not alone again. I'm just going to begin I hope next month I'm going to ask about disability. I am fortunate to have a husband. Make no conclusions here, he works at Walmart. The income is very limited. I thought I could work but the amount of meds leave me weak and tired through out the day.

I hope things get better for you. I'll say prayer right now for you.

Hi Redsgal - I know it gets terribly frustrating BUT IT WILL COME! Waiting for anything drives me a bit batty. I hope it comes though soon!
