Hi everyone. I hope everyone is doing ok today.
I don't know if this is a vent or asking advice or maybe both.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has lost friends and family due to BP. I've also lost people in my life because I didn't live up to their expectations/standards. I've learned not to let anyone else in my life and have put up walls to people for years to protect myself. It has left me feeling isolated and left out. I was thinking about it today...I have a joint Facebook account with my hb and we have over 200 "friends" on there. Most of them his, but some are people I went to school with and were friends with in the past. I'm really not friends with any of these people.
I have one best friend I've known for 18 years. She's been there through the good and bad and I'm grateful for her. But I have no other friends. Me and my husband go out with a couple sometimes and they are really nice. But I can't open up to them or any other potential friend, I don't know how to let the walls down and let ppl in again. I feel like I need that but at the same time I fear their rejection that I just know will come at some point, like all the others. I just wish I could snap out of it and leave the past hurts behind but its not as simple as that of course. Anyone learn how to let ppl back in after years of keeping ppl at a distance? Is it even possible?

I feel like I've made myself unapproachable. People keep their distance from me now too or so it seems. They don't even try to talk to me anymore. It makes it feel like people don't care about me, but I think I caused all this. :(((

I too have put up walls , and sheltered my self pretty well, I feel like I can't let people really know the real me, cuz in my mind they won't like me, If they knew I was Bp they wouldn't like me. I posted a like on a bp group and watched my fb friends drop real fast. walls will stay up there. when I go out , I like to go out with my husband , he is a great buffer, I hide behind him and let him do all the talking, and everyone thinks I'm just quite. sorry no answers.

You didn't cause anything. Always remember that Bipolar Disorder is not your fault either. Try to live the best way you can and then you will have no regrets. Nobody knows what you are going through either. Always try your best in life and don't look back.

I feel the same way you do like I don't have anyone and it's my fault, but I'll tell you what I learned I have a-lot of people who care on this site and that's all I need!

I do this too. I put up walls all the time with everyone except my kids. When things get very bad, I shut down on my husband, and I know it's very hard on him. This is really something I want to work on. I

I have many many friends most of whom don't know I am bipolar. I let people in and show them love and grace, if I get hurt, then they didn't need to be in my life anyway. Scars grant me hope and peace
