Even though today is a day for gladness, i am very sad. Yesterday, i stepped on my cat's rear paw, accidently, and he is in extreme pain. I managed to catch him yesterday to take him to the animal hospital, and thank the Lord, he did not have a broken bone, but he did suffer from soft tissue damage. They gave me a bottle of medicine for him to take with food, but he has not eaten, so he is not getting the medicine into him to help with the pain. I am so close to him, he has been my buddy for the past 7 -7 1/2 years, and i feel badly i caused him pain. All he does is hiss and growl if i get too close to him, and is hiding from me or should i say, is trying to stay as far away from me as possible. Needless to say, it is breaking my heart that he is in pain and wants nothing to do with me.

I'm so sorry Sweetheart! I have a cat myself
and I know how much it would break my heart
to have something like this happen to him. I
think that might be a good suggestion to take
him back to the Vet tomorrow and ask them to
give him an injection for his pain. When his
paw heals, he will come back to you. You guys
have been close for a lot of years now. Big
hugs to you!

I just read the posts that Kitty is eating
again and getting his pain medicine! That is
wonderful! I'm so glad for both of you!

thank you becky and debby. It makes me feel much better to know he is feeling better. I was a basket case the past 2 days, crying every time i turned around. Thank God i did not have to work last night, i would not have been able to, i got no sleep after work Wednesday morning.

I understand why you are upset and sad. Your kitty is like a child and when he is in pain you are in pain. Don't blame yourself. Accidents happen. Once he settles down and starts eating...try to give him some of his pain killer then. Once you have him in your arms, pet him and talk to him. Tell him that he will be okay and it was an accident. I really think animals can tell by the tone of your voice and your actions what you are trying to tell them. I pray that kitty heals soon and you start feeling better.

Hi - I did exactly the same thing to my cat a couple of days ago - I trod on his front paw and he screamed out - I felt terrible.

Come the evening he was soon back to his loving affectionate ways.

Try not to feel so bad about it - it was an accident and animals - especially cats - give unconditional love. xx

thank you all for your responses, he is doing better, still is hiding under the end table, but is moving around some under there, but at least he is eating and drinking again.

I'm sorry about what happened to your cat. Don't feel bad at all you didn't intend to hurt him and he was probably in a lot of pain and discomfort and he could have been avoiding you because . I had a similar situation with a past cat and he did the same thing to me for a few days. Just take care of him and comfort him and he will warm back up to you.

Good news, My cat came out of hiding today and i got to hold him, even if it was for 5 minutes. I feel better now knowing he does, but he is far from being all better.
