I'm sooooo sorry! I know just how awful I would feel in your place! I wish I could make it better for your kitty, and so that s/he would trust you again right away. But, I'm sure that this reaction isn't permanent, please don't despair.

Oddly enough, our cat has had some problems in the litter box, (I'll spare everyone the details), and it seems that she has some sort of parasite. I ordered deworming pills online, and they finally came. Last night, I had my son help me, and we gave her her pill. I prayed and prayed that it would go well. I was so worried she might gag, and I wouldn't have enough pills left to make her well.

But, I had researched how to feed pills to cats. Here is the link:

Tuna is one of her favs, and so I gave her a fingertip full of it to start while my son was holding her in his lap wrapped in a towel, and then followed the directions in the link above. Blowing on their nose to make them swallow really works! And, we gave her the rest of the can of tuna immediately afterwards, and she seemed to forget all about having a pill shoved down her throat! I'm so happy and relieved about how it turned out.

Give him time, be slow and unobtrusive with him, and if you can get the pain pill down his throat, he might get his appetite back. Especially, if you can shove some food in WITH the pill? I mean, don't be shy about calling the vet, (idk about their availability on the Holiday), if you're not sure.

BIG giant hugs to you and to your kitty when he gets ready to take them again. I'm sure it will happen. Even one really painful event is NOT enough to cancel out 7 and a half years.

I second what jaybear said. This is not enough to cancel out 71/2 years. We hurt when our furbabies hurt. I know you feel horrible about what happened I would too. (((((HUGS))))

getting him to take this medicine is hard because it is in liquid form, to be put directly into his food, so consequently, if he will not eat, he does not get the pain medicine. and i cannot get close enough to him to even get him in a towel to even put it in his mouth directly from the dropper. I did put it in some milk and in some tuna juice with a little bit of tuna in it, but so far, no luck with him eating or drinking. Thank you both for responding, it does make me feel a bit better.

Is it possible that you can get someone else to administer the pain medicine for your kitty? A friend or a neighbor? Just a thought. I know more about dogs than cats to be honest. But I just thought I'd suggest it.

I'm sure it's money you can't afford, but you could get a pain med injection at the vets tomorrow. Leave the food out, anyway, he might be refusing to eat cuz he's still mad at you? And he'll get over it. I don't know cats, but dogs do the same thing.
My chihuahua got angry at me today for cleaning for a party and not paying any attention to her, she went outside and rolled around in the mudiest spot she could find....THEN jumped on the just vacuumed sofa. GRRR!

thank you all for your responses. I shall take your advice and leave food out for him. maybe he will eat something when we are gone tonight for a bit. I will check on him when we get home. if he doesn't , perhaps tomorrow, my husband and i will try to capture him , in a towel, to get him to at least take his medicine. and maybe a dropper or two of some milk. This med does upset the tummy, so he has to have something with it.and maybe he will feel a bit better tomorrow, just by himself,

My cats are my biggest source of joy and love and I completely understand how you are feeling. PLEASE remember that animals are so much more kind, forgiving, loving, an understanding than people. He is just scared.

When my cats have been on pain meds, they've been liquid that you shoot (via a little syringe without a needle) in between their cheek and gum, and it is absorbed that way. Maybe the medicine makes his food bitter. Anyways, the meds were always cheap, so maybe if you don't see much improvement you could just call the vet and ask him for a med like that.

You could also, if he isn't eating, give him a treat that he would eat-- either actual treats, or wet food, or whatever floats his little boat.

thinking of you and your cat-buddy...it was an accident! Your cat will mend ...sounds like he's just a bit grumpy as he's unwell- doesn't mean he doesn't still love ya!. Wishing you both speedy recovery.

I've got great news everyone. My husband and i just got home from his son's house, and i looked to see if he was alright, well guess what? Not only did he eat the food i put the meds in, he drank the milk i put it in too, and ate his kibble. I just hope i didn't over dose him. But i am happy that he ate. I also just gave him some of his regular food, and some water, and he started to eat that too. Yippeeeeee

this med is called Medicam, it is in liquid form, and must be given in his food, i was told by the doctor, it is tasteless, so he will not know it is in there. again, thank you all for your responses and your advice.

I'm so glad to hear that your cat is eating and doing better. Sometimes they just have to get hungry, I guess.
