i won't be actually going to university until 2013, but as you may know the application process is lengthy and i need to start applying as soon as i get back to my alevels this september. I am a year older than most in my academic year because i missed a lot of school while i was in a psychiatric unit.
im very excited to get away from my home town, i find it restrictive and boring and am unstimulated here, i will find so much more in university to learn and grow and become who i am supposed to be.
when i think of getting to this point in life. i want to cry because its all ive ever dreamed since i was a little girl. I wanted to be clever and go to university and study. im looking through prospectuses and my stomach is doing backflips with the thought of applying and studying. in Oxford or Camridge, York or bath. i am so proud of myself for not letting being ill deter me from doing what ive always wanted.
I get my results on the 16th of august, if i get what i want and what i need. i will be applying to the best universities in the world and it makes me so so so so so so so happy !!!!!
i want to do a degree in english or english literature whichever is offered.
anyone here study english ? what was your experience? sorry for blabbing or if i sound like im boasting. i am just incredibly excited and happy to be moving onto something bigger and better than feeling like a mentally ill freak !!! woohooo

You will be amazed at the different perspectives you encounter at school and the way you are encouraged to stretch and think in different ways. My daughters found it exhilarating on one hand ...... and sometimes a bit to challenging for their core beliefs. But they all have done well in school. I hope you will too!

my stbx studied English... it used to annoy me that I would have 20 hours of classes a week and he would have like 6.... he always said that was so bcs of all the books he needed to read... and I was like me too!!!

Where i you, i would apply to many, many institutions from Loftiest(as mentioned) to smaller campus w/excellent faculty. Edinburgh would be my comfort zone.
Back in the late 60's -early 70's i snagged a bachelors in psychology w/ minor in Semantics/comparative Religion @ Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus.
Pulled a 4.0GPA. Spent majority of free time as drummer in roadhouse R&R band. Learned what i was after, non-biased "facts" opposed to accepted "theories" on chronic mental "health" diagnosis.
Did far more recreational hallucinogens/booze than bookworm/cramming "studies". Graduated summa cum laude class of '71. And went back to roadhouse tours w/construction part time........to cover party cost. Enough outta me...........Go for broke, never say die and let no one/nothing dampen your enthusiasm.........................YOU can do Anything you Want to given minimal/honest/consistent effort.

in the UK we apply for university through UCAS.
its an admissions service which every prospective student has to go through. its like the middle man :')
With this we can only apply for 5 universities. so it limits my options but i have narrowed down to the top 8 of my preference depending on grades, i'll apply for cambridge, durham, bristol, warwick, york, nottingham or ucl =)
