Tragic
Oh the ways we hide our sorrows and pains
Let's please remind ourselves that suicide is NOT the answer. There is help .. even when we feel alone, there are solutions and people who care... we may need to reach out and talk to someone, pick up a.phone and call someone, pray. There are people feeling hurt in a similar way... who need to know they are not alone with these mental and physical ailments.. there is hope...
I'm not saying that the following definitely applies to the tragedy recounted here, but sometimes what looks like suicide, isn't.
Sometimes, it is a case of masturbation gone wrong.
Here's a definition of this particular method:
Auto-erotic asphyxia is a method of increasing sexual excitement by restricting the oxygen supply to the brain, usually by tightening a noose around the neck.
When a person doesn't loosen the noose soon enough, they lose consciousness, sometimes resulting in death.
Often, there will be signs that point to auto-erotic asphyxia being the cause, such as pornographic material being found with the body.
Many families prefer to have it be viewed as a suicide rather than what it is, sometimes removing all signs of external sexual stimulation that are present before calling the police or ambulance.
Sometimes, when it truly seems like there's 'no reason', that is the reason.
If this is the known or probably cause, a death certificate usually refers to it as 'death by misadventure'.
50 years ago, when my father was a policemen, the police would even help the families hide the truth so that it could 'just' be ruled a suicide.
I have no idea how law enforcement, in general, deals with it today.
Doesn't matter if this was the case or if the young man did mean to take his own life.
A terrible, terrible tragedy, just the same.
I feel so sorry for both him and all his loved ones.
