As an aside (and since this is NOT Paragon's thread, I can make an aside), men and women equally have BP. It does not, statistically speaking, favor one gender over the other. HOWEVER- it may disable more women than men because of social conditions (ie: women, in the US anyway, are statistically more likely to not have health insurance, and as we know, poor medical care can break a person who might not otherwise have been disabled)- so that might be why there are women than men than DS. ALSO, more women than men may want the social outlet of DS (to "process" feelings, etc); whereas men, stereotypically use other outlets.

as an aside on your aside...I think society favour bipolar in men more..

risk taking is much more acceptable in men..my wife treated a bipolar guy that was a hot shot in the money markets..

by the same token risk taking in women is not appreciated in children..promiscuity and risk taking ("OMG what about the children??") is definately a no no.

Unless you are Angelina Jolie.

WHY would he have to worry about female characteristics? Women LOVE a man who's in touch with his feminine side, so to speak.

(As an aside, my husband shaves his legs, and it's super hot- you should try it!)

Very interesting points, Fish. I agree. So- are you saying that "mild" (whatever I mean by that) BP may go unrecognized in men more often than in women because some hypomanic traits are instrumental for men? Interesting, I agree!

    I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car.
