Um, ok, stop posting here; I dug this old one up cause I was borred.

I am still having profound depression and mixed state on Lamictal and now even with Wellbutrin SR. I was falling apart from anxiety in addition so I now take Klonpin .50 2x daily. That helped. But while I have managed to stave off mania for the first summer in a decade, the depression and mixed states still persist, and anxiety....just about more than I can take. It has been so long. I have tried so much. Topomax was mentioned to me lately. My pdoc just suggested I add Topomax so all your posts are encouraging. I hope...I am so discouraged...

Symbyax (Xyprexa and Prozac mix) was really the BEST EVER for me to level me from any state, and get quality sleep. But just looking at the pill makes me gain 3 pounds LOL... I gained 25 pounds after 3 months of it, taking it more often but not daily. The good news here is I heard they are trying to come out with a Xprexa/Topomax mix drug to give you all the benefits and remove the weight gain issues. We will see.

I took Topamax for a good while. My pDoc put me on it when I came off of Lithium. It was a useless drug for me. My pDoc got me up to taking 400mg a day! I never had any side effects from it. It just did nothing at all. I take seroquel now. I have a friend who is not Bipolar and she takes topamax for her migraines. She said it has helped her headaches a lot.

I tried Topamax and was really excited when my doctor put me on it to try and control my moods but I had a lot of problems with the side effects. The biggest one that really bothered me was the tingling in my hands, fingers, feet and toes. I tried to hold out as long as I could and got up to 300mg before I couldn't do it anymore. I'm on Lamictal 200mg and Geodon 80mg but might talk to my doctor about trying topamax again, not so much for the mood stabilizing effect, but the weight loss effect. I know that's not a good reason to try it again, but if it will help with the weight and moods, then I'm willing to try again. (sad, I know) By the way I'm new to this so I hope I did this right. :-)

no mood stabilization noticed, but they don't work on me in general as charted over long periods of time.

however. great help in weight loss from other bp drugs.

It has helped with mood stabilization @ 150mg combined with 400mg Lamictal & was wonderful for help with weight gain from Seroquel.

i have been asking pdoc to try tomapax in my rgime for months but it is not commonly used in this country so he is reluctant to prescribe it. the weigt gain from other meds is a contributary factor to my being unwilling to leave the house even though my kids tell me it is my imagination! astonishly the recent addition of seroquel has not caused weightgain which is a first for me. will keep asking pdoc for topamax though.

Besides the tingling in my hands and feet (which was very painful by the way) Topomax made me lose weight but at a big expense. I turned psychotic on it and was freaking out on a daily basis. I switched to Lamictal and have been fine with it, no side effects at all.

Old, really old?

I actually take topamax for my migraines but there is the added plus for the mood stabalizing effect. I had gotten to a larger dose but had cognative problems and had to drop back. I wasn't one of the lucky ones that lost weight. No loss for me. I wish I could tolerate a higher dose but for me they call it dopamax for a reason....

You mean Dope amax?

My Pdoc says that's the nic name other Pdoc's give Topamax.
While I was on it ,I had word retreval problems,I forgot how to tie my shoes,and shift my car.
