I was on Topamax for a while..I had good results,not many physical side effects..BUT,Topamax is nic-named DOPE-A-MAX by Pdoc's,because it can really cause you to get down right stupid...I forgot how to tell time,anfd how to tie my shoes..a strong reaction,but it can happen

I tried it once and got horrible headaches and couldn't take it unfortunately, but I hear that weight loss (not gain as is typical) is also a side effect, which could be good as long as it wasn't extreme or caused a person to be underweight.

My doc hasn't suggested it, but I feel like this is the only drug that is coming up in my searches that I haven't tried yet.
I do already have major problems with focus and attention, so I guess Topamax would be a bad idea.
God, I don't know what else I can take! I'm out of meds to try.

I use the Topamax for migraine prevention. I was told my pdocs that one should not use Topamax as a primary mood stabilizer as it is somewhat of a secondary. All i know is that it did make me STUID! I recently cut my amount in half per day to hopefully give me a bit more intelligence back. My migraines seem to be in check still. As for a mood stabilizer, I would attribute my success to my lithium, tegretol and seroquil to that...thus far!

SDali, my pdoc told me it was used for migraines but caused headaches for some people (like me). That is so puzzling to me.

wants to try topamax....I too have migrains and wanna loose some weight...as far as a mood stabilizer Abilify has been a wonder drug for me....plus I also take more meds too./...

My pdocs have always told me that it does NOTHING for psych symptoms, but is good for migraine, good for seizure, and good for weight loss.

I have tried Abilify, Seroquel, Risperdal, Lithium, Tegretol, Lamictal, and seriously and totally not exagerating every anti depressant and anxiety med that has been made. Every search I do takes me to a med I have already been on. I am so desperate. I can't work, I can't think, I can't sleep, or function anymore. I need help, and I don't know what to do. There is nothing left.

I had to come off Lamictal because it fried my brain (not good for technical work) Topomax is not much better and I am about to come off of it. I have been on trileptal and it seems to be working quite well in place of the Lamictal and I can do math again and remember names.

I take topomax to counteract the weight gain from Seroquel XR, but will probably stop it (losing too much weight).

Looking at your list of what you have tried so far, I didn't see Geodon or Zyprexa. I've heard good things about Geodon, one that you don't gain a lot of weight. Really don't know anything about Zyprexa except that it's in the same class of drugs.

I am on topamx for migraines due to the brain tumor and it helps with stabilizing the mood swings of my bi polar also . . . best of luck in finding something. Too bad about the Lamictal which I am on for nerve damage and find it helpful for the BP also.
