I spent the holidays with my mum and decided to tell her about my disorder. Finally. I wasn't so sure how much to tell her so initially I only told her that I'm in therapy and on ADs and that I'm bipolar. She already knew the bits and pieces of BP cos she did psychology in nursing school. Somehow she got it in her head that I'd be 'better' after I graduated from university, that maybe it's just me being homesick and not dealing with the stress of school and my new found independence that's getting me all moody and such. Meh. She then had a little chat with my pastor and he hinted that it's more serious than I let on and that she and I needed to really talk. For whatever reason she waited til I was in bed with the lights off to start talking. She asked about self-harming and I admitted that I did but she never asked how. I tried to explain how it felt- the mood swings, the highs, the lows and she just went silent and that was it. The next morning she hugged me and said she's praying for me to get better. I'm not sure exactly how I wanted her to react to it but that was definitely NOT it. But at least she knows now, right?
