Only my family and one friend know I am bipolar,,alot of friends I have make jokes about bipolar people and I just sit there like what the fuck..Nobody understands what we go through. Our dr's and counselors cant even relate imo. I have been on disability the past couple years and going to start working 1 day a week..My old job is taking me back they know something is wrong with me but they dont know I am bipolar..Just tired of it its draining trying to ACT normal. Wish I was normal lol

This Disease is just like any other Disease, until people open up and conversations are started about it and what we battle to live life with it...then people will continue to have a negative view of it.
And if you think your Pdoc doesn't understand your BiPolar life, sounds like it's time to get a new Pdoc.....
Like you Chris I'm 47 and have been BiPolar since I was 20. I've raised 2 sons who've always known I had BiPolar and known we didn't keep it as a secret. We just didn't treat it like some big dangerous secret and we didn't have people freaking out about it around us. Chapel Hill and Duke are major Research Study Universities and they do tons of Mental Health Research all the time. It's something this is talked about here, discussed here, not frowned upon, studied to learn better treatment, etc.
All you can do is look after yourself and your own.
