so I don't know if this happens to any one else but
when I am in a good mood and then have time on my hands
i find that if I can't entertain myself or occupy the time
with something that I enjoy to an extent
that good mood can turn into disappointment - and
dismay if I am not careful about it -
the lack of focus on satisfying stuff can lead
to rumination since I can go into a mood and then
not be aware of how deep I am going (the good side of this
is that I am learning that that is what happens.)
I have always had a hard time keeping myself entertained
I'd like to be able to find a focus that I can turn to
that gives me peace. I was thinking about knitting but that
turned me off after learning about it....
peace,
Mark

It's Natural, at this stage of the game. This is when I have to make Lists; spend more time in Sunlight; listen to Positive music and don't gravitate toward the very things that Encourage my depression. See?
Yes, this is the time for starting interesting new hobbies, or just getting together with Friends more, to keep away from Too much 'alone time'.
What new stuff can you try, besides knitting? :)
Thanks, I really appreciate your response and reflections.
As much as I feel exasperated by having to entertain myself when I have a hard time with it, I take inspiration from your ideas. It's a job that we all have to deal with - and knowing that makes me understand that I am not alone in that. Peace.
I almost have to keep a list of things I could do to keep myself close to joy or at least things that make me happy....
I know it sounds strange but things shift on a dime for me and I can go from OK to feeling pretty disappointed in a matter of minutes....and it's downhill from there fairly quickly.
Sounds like this is also true for you Mark thanks for this.
In moods like my current one, I find myself going from singing, cooking, dancing around, to all of a sudden thinking I am a Complete loser who should just hide in the corner in a fetal position til Next Spring. (maybe longer)
In Those cases, I treat the intrusive thought/emotion just like a Stranger at my door; even though it is Tempting, I look shocked at it, and say, "I don't know you! I'm shutting the door and Not letting you in!!"
For a bit afterward I will carry the emotional Memory of how lousy I felt; I really do. But I go do something Else, and the feeling goes away again.
....Lather, rinse, Repeat. Take naps in between. :)
I love reading though... I always have a book going and I like to look random things up online a lot.. I enjoy Google
I hope you feel more settled soon Marky....xo
The art is there for me as is writing, but I don't always feel up for it! I beat myself up that I haven't written a novel or accomplishing any great feats with my art....this failure thinking gets to me and I'm trying to not let it consume me and just work on paintings and writings AS MY THERAPY.
I like to do collage type stuff too...just finding words and images in papers and magazines and piecing things together is calming for me.
I also started an art therapy program so I'm hoping that gives me some peace.
I'm sorry you're feeling this way mark. You are not alone. Best wishes to you.
