They closed down 3 entire local school districts where we are. The health department made them (I used to work for said health department BTW) so I am a bit freaked. There has been somethings saying it could have been around for a year - which if that is the case then some of us have probably already had it and didn't know. We were sick with something rather nasty not that long ago that sounded similar, but that could of been a myriad of different things - y'know? We live close to Mexico, and people are always going back and forth so it isn't like it would of been contained if it has indeed been around. Besides the child who died of it here in Texas was around a lot of people, now who did he get it from & why aren't more sick? Could they already have immunities from it, like because they were already sick with it earlier on??? I just wonder? Anyways, if my kids show any signs then it if off to the doctors/urgent care/er we go - they say it is best caught within 48 hours. I have been having freak out sessions about it. So thank God for Risperdal - it is smoothing that part out.

BTW, the CDC did release a statement... Tamiflu will not prevent this strain of the virus. I repeat Tamiflu is not good for this strain...

It can't prevent from what I understand - but doesn't it help fight it once you already have it? Isn't that how that drug works?

Ah a side effect from Tamiflu is SJS... interesting and it can cause hallucinations too. There is also Relenza which isn't as popular.

Also I read this: "Tamiflu-resistant strains have also appeared in the European Union, which remain sensitive to Relenza."

Tamiflu was never meant for prevention. It is a treatment to be taken after you already have it.

I feel your pain. Some of the parents here are sending their kids to school with flu like symptoms and the clinic here can't make diagnosis for crap. So if anyone has it they are not going to know about it unless they go 110 miles to Salt Lake City.

Aw its a hot zone and people still go to vaction in the zone.
I thought that they could only treat the symptoms being that there is no vaccine at this time and they might be able to come up with 1 that they will have enough to treat 4 out of 5.
I have my charcoal mask and box of gloves, an ready to go grocery shopping but I wont be buying pork or pork products.
