I find myself doing all sorts of weird superstitious crap lately. I am a very logical and rational person normally. But I was having a bad day yesterday, so I put on a pair of underwear I consider to be "lucky" and later when that had "helped" some but I was still unhappy, I added lucky socks.

My day got better. The superstitions get reinforced. My mail man says the reason my dog barks like crazy when he comes around is because it works... the bad scary mail truck goes away!

Just wondered if anyone else does stuff like this. I attribute some of it to pregnancy anxiety and some of it to being mostly off meds, but I find it funny and embarrassing at the same time! My husband just says if it's making me feel better and it isn't hurting anyone, what's the problem?

LOL! I am now out of lucky socks so I guess I'd better do laundry!

Sometimes I'm supersticious and other times I'm not. Guess it depends on my mood. I do have a figurine I bought as a child which is supposed to bring good luck. I still have it 37 years later and I've had good luck and bad luck but mostly good luck.

I've never considered it superstition but I do have a wide range of OCD behaviors that I use to improve my mood.

Yes sometimes I am when I feel that way I obey my gut!!! Things seem to work out.

My dad used to say once you leave the house,don't go back for anything because it's bad luck. It's taken me a long time to overcome my folks' superstitions. I can still see Mom sitting at the dinner table throwing salt over her left shoulder because she'd accidentally spilled some. Etc etc.

I use to be horrible!! I would raise my feet when crossing the rail road tracks, I would have a fear of black cats, I feared the number 13, walking under ladders. Well, you get the idea. However, I no longer have these fears or silly habits because I don't believe in superstitious things anymore. But, it did take me a long time to stop what I believed. Now OCD is another thing all together!! I do have one thing that drives people crazy and I had to ask my doctor about it. I HATE the number 6. I won't go in a line with that number, and many other things pertaining to that number. I know the reason but that is another story all in itself!! :-) Hugs GB

I think superstition is ingrained in our brain through evolution. I knew a 40 year-old man with a Master's Degree in Education who wanted to do a "purification" of my apartment because some crazy had placed a drawing with a pentagram under my door! I knew some people there were trying to curse me, but I REFUSED to buy into it. A curse is only as powerful as the BELIEF in it. This same man once very earnestly told me that some co-workers had made a voodoo doll of him, accurate right down to the small details, like the pipe he smoked! It was all I could do not to laugh!!! In case you're wondering what kind of people these were, I will only say it happened in Philadelphia where a certain group of people are notorious for superstitious beliefs and behaviors.

this might sound odd but it really depends on the day or hour even. Normally I'm not superstitious but every once in a while I catch myself stepping over cracks or throwing salt over my shoulder etc. However I do believe in the supernatural

I blame all of my superstitions of my OCD - numbers, thoughts, & holding my breath.

Ok I now know this is OCD behavior. When I used to wear a wrist watch, and was anxious about something, I would ask myself a "yes" "no" question about the source of anxiety. If the second hand was on a even number then the answer was "yes" if on an odd number the answer was "no"...if between numbers I would repeat the question in a few minutes.

Point of it being I looked nuts always looking at my watch. ..

My dad started to get annoyed about this behavior.

I hadn't thought of it as OCD related, but I have a previous dx of OCD so maybe that's what's going on. Having another bad morning, and out come the lucky underwear again... Really looking forward to having this baby so I can go back on my antidepressant because I don't do stuff like this when I'm on it!

Yes supersticious and or OCD I am! I like even numbers. When the numbers are odd I feel like that leaves one all by itself. SO even when I turn up the volume on my radio or TV it has to be on an even number and NEVER the number 13. Also every day on the way to work I drive thru several stop lights. There are 2 different ones that I have to pop my knuckles at 4 times, 2 on each side and pop my thumbs 4 times before I go thru them or else I will have a bad day at work. Wow when I write it all out it sounds pretty wacky but oh well! Also Kissing the roof of my car on yellow lights is good luck!

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
