protein helps with sugar
Sugar/alcohol (obviously cuz of the sugar and depressant factor) triggers my depression big time. I am a sugar addict LOVE IT but my motivation to stay away has been good since I made the connection btw eating it and having a depressive crash the next day.
Apparently dark chocolate (like 70% cocoa lindt chocolate bar can actually help elevate mood while getting a bit of a sugar fix-not my fav but helps). I keep my diet very clean now because it's not worth how depressed I get.
I have found specific foods on some reputable sites that help with depressionn for me I notice broccoli, red peppers, sweet potatoes, brown rice, egg whites, nuts, salmon, plain oatmeal, plus loads of ICE water all day long to flush system and I take iron supplements, vitamin D and B complex and I really notice when I go off those supplements that symptoms come back quickly.
Perhaps you've found good sites on your google search but here are two that I find good:

i notice a huge difference. fruit has become my `sweet tooth' food.
it took a month of cravings to get through the addiction i had to processed junk food.
I am also a diabetic, but I became diabetic after gaining 60 lbs and also I have been on seroquel for 11 years. Don't know if it has anything to do with depression.
its good to know that food really does mess with your mood. i always suspected it but was unable to prove it due to my moods always being so well...rare. keep up the research and let me know what else you find out.
