Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I finally found a better job. I start on this coming Monday. I should be very happy, but I am only filled with self-doubt. This is fueled by my loving family. Back in 2015, I lost three jobs in less than a year. All because I couldn’t learn the job fast enough and they let me go. I’m terrified that this is going to happen to me again. And to make things even worse, pretty much all of my family members have said “well I hope this works out for you And you keep this job”. So I’ve got that going on. And on Friday, my dad tells me that they may have found cancer in him. He has to have more tests done do you know for sure. This is very upsetting to me, because I just can’t imagine my dad sick. He is a very strong and stubborn and abusive man. I love him, but he hurts me verbally and emotionally. I am also feeling very triggered by this cancer situation, because I’ve had cancer myself twice. I know exactly how hard it is to wait and not know. It is very hard to sit by and watch somebody else go Through that knowing how horrible it was. A few weekends ago, I went down to where he lives to visit, and he knew about this and never said a word while I was there. He proceeded to get really drunk, and was just very weird acting, talking all cryptically ( I thought it was weird then but now I know why). It would’ve been nice if he would’ve not gotten drunk and just talk to me. But he didn’t want to, I guess that’s his prerogative to handle things the way he feels shit to do. And to top it all off I weaned myself will not myself, but with the help of my psychiatrist, from 2 mg of Ativan down to 1/2 of a milligram. I’m not really having too many problems, I just don’t seem to sleep as well as I was. So I’m got so many scary things going on in my life right now. I’ve also been throwing things away, purging. I’m afraid of what will happen to me mentally if this new job does not work out. Part of me feels like if this doesn’t work out, I should just be done with Everything. I just feel really alone and scared. Thank you for listening.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Gentlest of steadying support while you work it out, TC. I hope you are plying lots of extra self-care and being gentle with yourself for feeling off balance.
You are not alone. Keep us posted.
The fact that you came on to DS and posted about it shows you have a better perspective than you realize on the tools and power you have to get through this. Hang in there, and deal with only one thing at a time if you need to-- everyone's plate is only so big, and sometimes we need to distance ourselves from certain problems if we can.
Sending lots of love and positive energy your way,
Jess
They expect that it will take some time to learn the ropes....
I'm sorry that your dad is going through this....and that you are as well..... It is frightening
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers..... As the others wrote take good care of you....... Big hug......xo
Now I’ve got ANOTHER family situation. My mother has SEVERE COPD. she can’t walk 20 feet without gasping for air even WITH oxygen on. She tells me yesterday that her HUSBAND (A$$HOLE) is leaving her ALONE for FOUR FREAKING SAYS!!!!!)
people with COPD can stay by themselves and be just fine. My mom had severe COPD, after she beat Non-hodgkins Lymphoma, she lived by herself and had a nurse come in twice a week to check on her but otherwise did fine. Eventually she died of the COPD.
As for your dad i'm kind of shocked that you still have a relationship with your dad, most of us don't continue relationships with the parents who abuse us for our own mental health and just for the fact that it not good to continue to feed their evil.
I hope you get things figured out for yourself soon.
