Stigma even in the Hospital

Today I went to the doctors to talk about a hysterectomy and the doctors had requested my medical records from the other hospital and my trip to the psych ward was there and all its GLORY (good God)! All of a sudden I get two people in the room with the doors open. And everything is straight forward. Ever since I had my own trip in the mental hospital. I don't get no more bed side manners. Just the ugly side of the harsh reality of shit from every which way...talk about heck of price to pay for an illness. Can I get a witness?

Holy crap - that's discrimination! I would talk to the hospital/doctors administrator. Oh I'm sorry - how awful!

Sorry honey. It is discrimination and it is awful. I once had a doctor look at my psych hospital records, then look at me and say "Well you don't look crazy." Pissed me off. You think as medical professionals these people would know better, but they just don't.

Yea that is BS I have haddiscrimination in hospitals as well due to my size. PEople are assholes!

Yeah, I understand. Have hope though. This recent medical stuff I've been going through has been different than previous experiences. I talked openly and intelligently about bipolar with lots of medical professionals while undergoing breast cancer treatment and they LISTENED and were very respectful. I explained mania and why I couldn't sleep each night in the hospital and one overnight doc asked me lots of questions like he was learning something.

But yeah, I've gotten bad vibes in the past...

I was in the waiting area outside my pdoc office and two women sat next to me and started talking ABOUT me like I wasn't there !!!
She's so young... What is she doing here?..... Poor thing ....
The problem is that my family think mental illness is something to be ashamed of . We live in an apartment building so if you speak a little loudly or call over someone, other ppl will hear you ; so she calls me over and says : come sweetie,it's time to take YOUR THING .... Not your drugs , my mom never says the word out loud..... Shame.
