Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
But seriously, if you are on BP meds...many of them affect the body in a way, we gain weight and have a hard time losing it .
Sweetie, you are 23, if "Daddy" starts in on you about your weight...I think it's time to stand up for yourself, and let "Daddy" know you are dealing with your weight issue , the best you can....end of discussion
But, I will try to stand my ground this time. But I know he will just scream at me... Idk if it's worth it for getting called names and being yelled at.
I love my dad to death, I want to do everything to make him proud. I'm getting almost straight A's in school and other stuff is going well too... I just need to lose weight. Not only for him, but for me too. It will help my medical problems a lot.
i'm doing it.
you eat everything a vegetarian eats plus fish and no other kind of meat but seafood.
i don't know, just an idea.
i'd like to be vegetarian, but this allows me some major protein if i need it. it's a good way to transition.
you could just make it fun for yourself, choose things that will be right for you and still taste okay... you'll end up feeling better. i'm working on it too..
just remember, because someone is helping someone else out, it doesn't give them the right to belittle them.
I have friends who are anorexic and bulimic and bulimarexic (having both issues).
If you think you are going to go back there to your ED please seek help. Perhaps the help you once had will help you again. It is awfully hard to stop an ED entirely without help from professionals who are qualified to deal with it. I'm not trying to discourage you but to let you know you are not alone.
I also have an ED but it takes a slightly different form than yours takes.
My parents harped on my weight so much so that I moved out at 20 and married the third guy that came along and asked me. I gained a lot of weight and I am talking over 100 pounds here and my parents just would NOT STOP the harping. I tried to let them know it bothered me but it went in one ear and out the other. They could not hear me because I don't think they could accept it so as a result I was never heard.
As a result they lost me PERIOD. I did NOT visit them for 7 YES SEVEN years until I absolutely had to go and visit my (terminal) Mom. I got there on a Tuesday and watched her die on Friday of the same week.
I did not recognize my parents when I saw them the changes were so drastic. (My father had renal failure). I was the last person to see him alive.
I wish I had found a way to get them to hear me that I'm an adult and I am working on my weight to the best of my ability instead of avoiding them for 7 years.
It was so bad that my Mother on her DEATH BED literal death bed said "you'd lose a lot of weight if you had to take care of me every day". I chose not to cause a scene with that as she was mostly out of her head anyway with the cancer.
I'm sorry if I have digressed too far I just wanted to let you know you are not alone.
As for your ED you have every right to be scared and should be concerned. ED's can be deadly and IMHO need to be aggressively treated when out of control.
My medical issues prevent me from working out too. My joints suck big time. I have a host of health conditions related to my obesity but thankfully I have been holding the same weight since I was put on Seroquel. Well, not totally true within the same 15 pounds (to the less not more) of where I was when I started the Seroquel.
If you go see a counselor perhaps discuss with them the best way to handle this situation. HUGS and Good Luck!
I was semi-thin and in really good shape until I started on the damn Seroquel.
I'm thinking about getting the lapband surgery.
I personally know someone who had the lap band and had to have emergency surgery after she lost the weight. She did lose (weight) though and has kept it off last I knew of.
A lot of insurances will not pay for weight loss surgery period. In order to get weight loss surgery my understanding is that you have to be pre approved for it.
I know for gastric bypass this means psych testing and such.
I have a good friend who was considering lap band surgery and then the nutritionist they sent her to caught on to the fact she has severe food allergies and my friend did not even know she had these allergies! I'm serious.
She is allergic to over 40 different things mostly foods. My point in all of this is my friend was 300 pounds and 5 feet 10 she is now in size 16 jeans and while that is not thin as a rail she was only able to lose the vast majority of her weight AFTER she found out about the food allergies.
I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV :) I'm just trying to give you something more to think about.
You should be proud about straight A's. And just to let you know, I am a believer in exercise for a million reasons. But it won't help you lose weight, just maintain it. Sounds like you have been through a lot.
I am a pesco-vegetarian too. It really is healthy. Except I recently found out all the food in the northern Pacific is contaminated by various levels of mercury. So now I eat Tilapia and Basa - from South America, which are still healthy.
We were just talking about this at supper. Our oceans are being destroyed. It just makes me hurt to think of the whole earth dying because humans can't clean up after themselves. Sigh. Sorry for the vent on your thread.
I'm so sorry you're struggling with eating issues and your dad's intimidation. Resolving to become more healthy is a great commitment, however, it needs to be done in a healthy way. The eating something small once a day deal is scary.
Feed that lovely body of yours with reasonable portions of all the things it needs. We have a set of plates made by Slimware that has a lily pad pattern on the front. Big lilypad = veggies; medium lilypad = protein, small lilypad = starch. It's an easy way to keep your portions in check.
Under his rudeness, your dad is probably just concerned. He loves you more than you know. Just tell him, "I got this one, Dad." End of discussion.
Good luck!
