Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I posted last night about the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA). I was so excited to have found the live support group. I had planned on even making my own chapter if there wasn't one close enough to here.
Then my fiance tells me he won't watch my kids so I can go to the meetings. He's jealous that I want to talk to people w/ BP about my ilness.
I told him it's a lot easier to talk to people who actually understand BP, and of course he got offended saying he "thinks he's got a good grasp on BP" when in fact he's just a saner and he doesn't get it at all.
What can I do? I really want to go to the meetings!

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...
I'd recommend Bipolar Disorder a Guide for Patients and their Families by Dr. Mondimore of Johns Hopkins.
That would at least show you (and him) how serious he was.
So glad you found that group...hope setting up your own works out.
Good luck!
Some of the things I hear you say about him make me feel that this should be a really long engagement to make sure he's really gonna be the one you want before you marry him.
(Just looking out for you, hun.........)
He's even jealous of DS. He thinks that I should be talking to him about everything I talk to you guys about.
Getting jealous of you seeking support for your personal wellbeing is beyond dysfunctional- it's sabotage.
Get help or ditch him
I agree with the first poster, try and get someone else and go.
I'll have a talk with him later on, but I'm sure that it'll turn around and I'll be the bad guy.
It's the reason I am here on DS, my wife doesn't like it but she doesn't fight me about it either. You gotta do whats good for you Hanna, everything else becomes secondary.
Spouses, Boyfriends...etc. can come and go as they please. They can leave us and find their NORMY soulmates whenever they please but we are stuck with ourselves until the end of our days. Live for you and you will be better for everyone around you.
