Son's Psych Appt.

Hey all. Hope everyone is doing okay. I have an appointment set up for my four year old for intake into a psychiatrist. As some of you may know, Dillon is autistic. His tantrums are getting worse. He bangs his head on anything, slaps himself in the face and head, bites, kicks and slaps us. I also believe he is ADD/ADHD as he never stops. Am I doing the right thing? I don't care about him hurting me which he has done before, but I worry about him giving himself a head injury or summat because he really goes at it. Violently. Has anybody else experience this with a child? Thanks for your support and input. Have a wonderful day.

Your very welcome, Aww that would be hard, I know alot about autism as my carer works with 2 people with Autism, and one can do most things but she needs alot of help sometimes and routine, do you know what I mean?
Sometimes she has problems understanding things but with help she is geting better with that, so I know if you get him he help now its going to really help in the long run.

I think you're doing right. My aspbergers son has always been more calm and the autism is mainly an impairment. He takes depakote (for seizures), fluoxetine and trazodone. I'm not recommending any of this as a course of treatment but to show that the psychiatric approach in autism is a common and useful thing. I don't have experience with a violent child but I have confidence that you'll find the best solution you can.

My son has aspbergers he was diagnosed before three. He always has had fits of violence that would last 45 minutes or so, something so simple as he didn't want to leave the house would set him off. He is now 14. Still gets very angry, slams doors, and on occasionally will fist fight with his brother, although I believe he deserves it, I don't approve. I have choosen not to medicate my child. Grades were poor up until last year, things suddenly changed. As we found out puberty can have a benificial outcome on children like him. Do what you feel is best in you heart for your child...Best of luck to you!

Aww, DY. Thanks!! I am not so much wanting to treat the autism with a psychiatrist. I am taking him in because of the meltdowns he has and because of possible ADD/ADHD. Not sure about the medication thing as I don't want him on meds if it can be at all helped. Mainly want a diagnosis(es) in his record. Am trying to get him on SSI.

Oh Ok. I never wanted my son to have anything on his record. The schools to this day are not aware of his diagnosis. I do not want special treatment for him, I want him treated like the other kids and we treat him no differently from any of our other children,,we just know what is going on behind the scenes..That is just me though. Good luck to both of you and I hope his outbursts get better for you!

I hope the appt. is really a success sweetie.. it sounds like you need some help for all of you... he will be getting bigger and stronger in no time at all and it's important to find some help and control for this

    Woke up feeling very emotional and about to clock in at my place of employment. And can't place it all in writing but not been a good experience with my store manager or his boss. Defamation of my character is a concern. I've been losing appetite and weight. Trying to perform at work to keep myself from hospitalization as a result of toxic masculinity.
