Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
So tell me a birthday party when you wwere a kid?
Do you remember you dad (if they arent still alive and okay to talk about). What was the first house you remember? Did you help build it (He would be real young but maybe he dug holes etc)
Just get him talking about the old days.
Thats what I would do.
Dads can sometimes be hard nuts to crack ... 'specially when it comes to the father-daughter relationship.
If my dad was still alive and we had a similar relationship to yours and your dad's, I'd plop myself down in front of him and say, "Come on, Dad ..... you old coot. I want to spend time with you .... not take your credit card and keys and go to the mall all by myself. So, Pops, what's it gonna be? Fishing? A hike? Bowling? Steak & lobster? What can we do together, Dad?"
I hope things settle out for you soon. Hang in there!
Tell him you appreciate him paying for things, but that the thing you want most of all is for you and he to spend some time together.
Either ask it at a time when nothing else is going on and suggest doing it right then and there or if that's not possible, pin him down to a certain time.
I feel sorry for your grandmother, too.
I'm sorry your father is abusive.
I hope spending time together will lessen that trait in him!!
(((((Hugs)))))
Please read this, and then consider what you are going to do. I think that it is sad that this is happening, but consider the fact that your grandmother has no escape, no where to return to.
