Hi I want to give you some helpful advice on how to quit smoking that works. I created my own system to quit smoking and it worked for me. I have been smoke free for over 3 years now it will be 4 years in June. I created a positive reward system to help myself quit smoking and I simply cut down the amount of cigarettes I was smoking by smoking one cigarette less at a time and by saving the money that I would have spent on cigarettes to reward myself in other ways. I felt better about myself. I realized I could to it without patches or nicotine gum and quit on my own terms when i was good and ready because I really wanted to. This is what I did I made a list of pros and cons and listed all the things that I like about smoking and all the things that I don't and all the reasons why I smoke and why I should quit. I wrote down how much i smoke a day and calculated how much money i spend on cigarettes a day. Then I thought about all the things i really want in life and want to do that I could do with the money that I could save if I stopped smoking and I was surprised at how much more money I could have in my pocket to do the things I want and to buy the things I want to buy if I quit. Then I started to clip pictures out of magazines and catalogs and stuff that I had lying around that I no longer needed that were visual reminders of what I want and what my goals and dreams are and I went to the dollar store and purchased a little photo album book and put the pictures in it and made myself a little dream and goal book to remind myself of what I really want to achieve by quitting smoking so that i can constantly look at it and refer to it to encourage myself especially when i need incentive to fight cravings. You can even keep a picture attached right to your pack of cigarettes. Maybe a picture of your family or loved one that you want to live a longer life with because you are smoke free and healthy. Start by smoking one less cigarette a day than you do now. Then in a few days go down to 2 less cigarettes a day. then in a few more days go down to 3 less cigarettes a day and keep decreasing the amount of cigarettes you smoke by just one cigarette at a time until you are not smoking anymore. You will be surprised at how well this works and how proud of yourself you will become as you start smoking less and sticking to it and spending less and less on cigarettes and having more money to do the things that you enjoy. I also would chew gum or suck on hard candies like mints or jolly ranchers to help me to quit smoking, i found other things to do during the time i would have gone on a smoke break go for a walk, make your grocery list, clean out and organize your purse, clean out your car, be productive and keep yourself busy so you keep your mind off lighting up. when you get the munchies because you are not smoking eat healthy low calorie low fat snacks and drink plenty of water it will keep you satisfied and keep you from gaining weight. find other was to deal with stress like doing meditation and relaxing techniques, drink some calming herbal tea without caffeine like chamomile tea. take a warm bath or shower, listen to some good relaxing music, do art therapy or write journal, call a friend, pray, watch a funny movie,enjoy some aroma therapy by lighting a nice scented candle that you like. there are many ways to de stress and relax that don't involve lighting up. I like to go play pool or billards sometimes to relax and have fun billards calms me down.

does your husband buy your cigarettes for you? are patches expensive? I went down the road of switching to an e-cigarette december over four years ago because cigarettes were so expensive. I just stopped smoking cigarettes and could once again enjoy having a cup of coffee in a cafe, or enjoy a dinner out or not get agitated sitting in waiting rooms or whatever cos you can use them wherever you like. I have not looked back. I have been to portugal twice, germany twice and italy once on the money I have saved not to mention that if there have been any sudden emergencies it is not the huge panic it used to be like having to buy two new tyres for the car a month ago, no problem, or my son needed some financial help no problem and it is not so much of a strain with my daughter in university. it is absolutely worth it. good luck with it which ever route gets you to your destination.

When I quit I slowly tapered off cigarettes. I would stop smoking after eating. Then stopped smoking when I walked the dog, etc...Gradually I ended up smoking one a day and when that pack was finished and just didn't buy anymore. I used half a patch a day for 3 weeks and then stopped that too. I wanted to quit for my health and that has kept me off them for 9 years now. I think having a good reason in your mind to quit helps a lot.
