MI puts a smoking ban into effect for restaurants and bars on the first of May. But most of the mental health wards still let you smoke even on smoke free hospital campus' . Mental health patients have enough to deal with let alone trying to quit smoking when feeling good and they wont pressure them when down.
Politicians will put you in jail for a joint, let each other do immoral acts of every kind and make smoking the worst thing mankind can do; as they pour down a cocktail at 1pm to start off the voting session (right before the DUI they have buried)
I am a polite smoker but it is my right I believe to treat my body as I see fit. If they can drink and kill my children I can smoke. Enough off topic.
What I was wondering is how many are allowed to smoke when inpatient for Mental issues, and have you discussed quitting with your doc?

Back in 2000, they did have a smoking area that they took the smokers to. Not sure when they changed the rules though...

Honestly, I had no problem with this. I felt that it was my right to smoke but anothers right to be smoke free. Therefore, I should confine my smoking to my place of residence. But, that was my acceptance of the situation.
I quit smoking 16 weeks ago with the help of the patch for the first six weeks. The funny thing is, I had previously quit for 17 years, mom got sick and lived with us, so I started again. She is a heavy smoker. When I quit this time, it was with no real planning, just the damn determination that I did not want to smell horrid or have the horrid taste in my mouth again. I think part of it was smelling my own kids and realized how offensive it is.
I will do whatever it takes to never pick up another cigarette....
Personally someone who drinks and gets behind the wheel of a car or picks up a firearm should be put on death row for attempted homicide of mine and others children. The truly innocent victims. Until then Smoke Away (what ever tobacco you use). [ strong feelings sorry, IMHO]
i gave up after christmas...it was not easy..and i still have the occasional one...
I think the same applies.....maybe have the right to drink and use firearms, but not to the detriment of others. It always boils down to the values of the law makers we elect and how much money is involved.
Some places of business, ie. bars, lost alot of money when the "no smoking" laws went into effect. We have some very large popular bars in town that actually allow their patrons to smoke and pay the fines for it because they make more money above and beyond the fines.
I understand about the drinking/smoking thing. I hear ya.....
always has done and always will.
many pubs around here will have lockins and whip the ashtrays out after closing..its the unwritten rule of the land.
we also get fined 75 for dropping a ciggarette butt....
and guess what ..a speeding ticket it less than that
The 4 times I have been locked up they have allowed us to either go to a courtyard within recroon or outside the hospital along the canal.
