I just had to work from 1:30am till now and now I have gone to stable to manic. I wish my job didn't require me to work at all hours of the night and day. I hate this, they have no idea how interrupting my sleep patterns causes such havoc. I have been up for like 36 hrs now my mind is racing, I can't sit still for one second. I was hoping to lower my lithium cause it is sucking the life out of me but I guess not. This isn't a good mania it is a bad trip. Fucking sucks, I am so angry.

I am sorry sorry to hear you are suffering so badly. Can you get your job shifts switched with someone? Because your absolutely right that lack of sleep is a trigger and can cause more lack of sleep and mania. That sucks.

I'd keep using as much lithium as you can handle but add an anti-psychotic when you get in a manic mood. Try to arrange your schedule to avoid losing sleep, that'll do you the best.

Thanks. I'm going to take some more lithium and some klonopin perhaps that will stop this.

I know it is you job but you need to be very careful of your sleep patterns. Lack of sleep will surely throw you into mania and even make you have less sleep. Try to relax take a warm bath some soothing music and maybe a couple of pills to help slow you down. Good luck.....

I had goofy hours, too!!! So I invoked the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and told them that it was extremely important for me to keep the same schedule.
They gave me a set shift, but they did their best to make my life Hell and then finally fired me on a trumped up charge, LOL!!!
I don't envy you!!! That really isn't good for you at all!!! I hope that you can get on a more regular schedule at some point!

Gleeps!!! You are so right. I am so sorry for you. One of the big BP thingys is sleeping consistantly. I dont know what kind of work you do. I can only say a prayer for you I am sorry.

Ok I just prayed that your bosses would give you a consistant shift.

My pdoc says lack of sleep is the main cause of mania. My oldest son is struggling with this right now.

Is there any possibility of switching jobs, or shifts? I know that this cannot be good for you.

Us beepers really need to have set sleep schedules. Its so important to stop the damn mania. I know its a dumb question, but is there any way you can work towards having regular hours, maybe at another job? Failing that, can your doctor give you some antipsychotics to add to the lithium? Lithium is often not enough to stop mania, I know it wasn't for me, I need something stronger to take when mania strikes. I use Zyprexa.

You have to change jobs. Or change shifts. Simple as that. You have no choice.

Is there anything you can do to get onto a day or evening shift??.. would it help if your pdoc supported this??.. my pdoc told me years ago he would never support my working nights due to the problems sleeplessness can cause beepers..I would take a prn if you can..x

Yes clinical studies have proven that irregular sleep patterns wreak havoc for us beepers.

Lack of sleep also sends me into mania very quickly. I have missed many days from work because I was looking like I just crashed from a week of speed.

I am so sorry that you are in this position and I hope you caa get on a regular schedule soon. As everyone else has said, a regular sleep pattern is so important for beepers
