My therapist told me about a special light bulb at Walmart I think. I will ask her on Tuesday and then I'll get back to you. Then you can try it w/o the expense of the 'other one' if you don't have one yet.
I live in Cleveland and I notice we don't have alot of sunny days, period. It is also documented that this is so..LOL! Anyways, I think my SAD is excerbated by the coinciding of my dad shutting down after Labor Day through Easter. He shut down emotionally basically from what I call 'squirrel
season until the winter thaw'. I noticed he was blue big time even with lithium. His dad was ill when he from from 7-10 years old. There was a the death of his sister the day after his 7th b-day which he felt was his fault. Then on Christmas Day of his 10th year his dad died of stomach ulcers related to drinking. As a child I remember my dad being so blue during this time. Being the sponge that I was as a child, I absorbed his trauma and my mom's as well. I have been in and out of therapy for the past 28 years of my 45 and have shed most of their traumas which made trauma for me. Can we say 'viscious circle'? So, I think my SAD had some ties to my childhood. I am cycling! Got a call in to the pdoc! LOL!
Hey, it is something that isn't a med that is supposed to help. I'm all over things like this, changing to a healthy diet, regular and plentiful sleep, tons of exercise, fish oil, prescribing fun and social interaction in our lives. I'm convinced these things are more important than the meds for controlling our moods and improving our lives.
