"I've decided to shave my head. Cuz when people see people with shaved heads, their immediate gut reaction is sympathy and empathy. (I've had cancer, so don't take offense.) I've decided to wear a Dexcom (a blood sugar monitor). Cuz when diabetics have low blood sugar and act unbecomingly or aggressively, they are met with understanding and support as their loved ones understand how horribly the person feels when they are once again balanced. This bipolar thing...., when I lose my mind...it's met with walls and demands for better boundaries and behaviors. When I have no where to turn except to looking for a way out...isn't that the time that I can hope that it will be met with the understanding that my brain is having "low sugar" or I'm going through " chemo" and I just can't take it anymore? People with chronic illness cannot separate themselves from their illness or their symptoms. Just as much as you didn't sign up for this, I didn't either. I am learning to have more compassion people who act out, knowing that there is most likely an underlying cause. Hopefully I will keep learning that lesson as I hope that people will also learn that about me. Not justifying...not angry....just food for thought."
