I have little information about giving risperdal to kids but I tend to be opposed to it. It seems to me that possibly this widespread reliance on what I call heavy drugs for children is that it's the easiest thing to do. Ok, I went and looked at some sites and some people feel the way I do and state that the use of ritalin is easiest for parents and teachers but only deals with symptoms, not the cause of behavior. Then there's a lot of techniques that don't involve medication. I searched "dealing with violent kids" and there was a lot of good information. I'm not sure I'd want my kids using medication that took a month to get me out of mania, if you know what I mean!

Chelle my then 17 year old was on it and it kicked her ass bad. When the courts free'd her to live on supervised alone whatever they call it she was then in charge of her own meds and she quit taking it because of the being zombied thing

Risperdal is most commonly used for children with some sort of mental illness and now with what you say autism is included. I have read of many children using this med so my conclusion is that it must work to some degree or another.

I would build up the medication very slowly even slower that the doctor suggests. Have some Benedryl ready so your son can sleep at night.

I had some that I couldn't stand to be on long term, but the leftovers were awesome for quenching the occasional fits of madness. One time I took a whole bunch of speed and when I started crashing at the end it felt like my mine was trying to wrench itself free of my physical body or something, crazy as shit, a couple of risperdal quick-melts got me smoothed out real comfy real quick
