Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I'm having problems feeling sympathy for other people. I work alongside people who have really suffered but find their chirpy optimism and joking nauseus.
I feel contempt for people I have a great deal of love and respect for and have been driving them away again.
As i work in an open plan office and am now expected to interact with people all the time I'm finding it a bit hard to hide this and this is inevitably having a negative effect on my working relationships.
As its a new job I want to keep it going as long as possible, but I'm a bit concerned this wont be possible.
Any ideas?

do you ever find that you want to hack people to death and store their body parts in a closet? if so, you may be a serial killer in the making.

Mmm, I dunno...maybe need to work on being less judgmental.?..how people present ie/chirpy does not really mean they are actually superficial or whatever. Takes all types etc. Maybe try and focus on what you admire in others. I dunno *shrug*...I can see how your attitude might work against you in that environment.

I must admit, Pollyanna types give me the Class A shits, it's true :)

Open plan office with a lot of interaction with others is not a winning set-up for us, in my experience.

I know what you mean....sometimes when I am in a bad mood (depressed, angry, hate my life kind of mood), just the sight of somebody in a happy mood makes me want to throw up. I start feeling as though I can't stand these people around me and even just little tiny things they do (like munching on chips, or the clicking of their shoes on the floor) makes me feel like putting a bullet in my head.
MrGrub
Ohh I'm just having a whinge. Nothing serious here.
MrGrub
Sry suzette that wasn't in response to what you said. But I relate to it! Know what you're saying

I'm glad I am not the only one who feels that way.

i agree with post #1 and i to feel the same way sometimes.

I can't believe that more people didn't respond to this post about feeling like you cannot stand other people and how to cope. I can barely stand any of you, and I don't even know you....imagine how much I can't stand people I actually know.

It's the extremely chipper people who get to me...fortunately I've killed most I've encountered so not such a headache these days.
deleted_user
Yes, perky, chipper, "NICE" people: to the meat grinders, please.
deleted_user
Well, that's a creative way to deal with things...

keeps it simple, I find x

Well, I worked in an office with lots of gossipy, chatty types for 18 years. I tried to not get to personal with anyone and tried to be as nice as I could to everyone. Office politics are the pits. I would just throw myself into my work if I were you and if someone tries to get you in a conversation just say you've got work to do, will talk later.
