Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hi-After 8 years on Prozac, lithium and sodium valproate my doc has agreed that I can try reducing the prozac form 60mg daily to 60 then 30 then 60 etc.
I was prescribed it after a long depression I couldnt shake after to much intense changes. I dont really know I am bipolar-
I go up more than down. Since this small reduction I am feeling a bit uppish but not so I cant work etc.
My aim is to come off all meds but we shall see.
Question is-what effects have others noticed as they wean themselves of prozac and or other meds?
Love to all dinah xxxxxx

I have to say, I've been fairly stable for the past 9 years, except for anxiety issues. For any who don't know me, before 2017, I was a Mess. Seriously undermedicated crazy person. And, since I've been stable for so long, I had come to believe I was "cured". That bipolar just miraculously ended for me....Until last month, when some things started happening that used to happen. And now I'm...

I know you are not quitting cold turkey like me, but a total reduction kinda gave me the feelings listed above. Just thought I would add my two cents to your post, maybe my information will be helpful to you.
In my experience meds are very secondary. The moods do what they do according to how I eat and how active I am and mainly just time. The meds can only help alleviate symptoms and to be honest I don't find them very useful most of the time. Lithium cutting off the peaks of moods is a god send though.
If you don't have a Diagnosis from a Psychiatrist saying your BiPolar, you need to go see one and get evaluated because you do not need to be on these 2 meds.
