Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

So right now my meds are being messed around with. My pdoc had tried me on risperdal after taking me off abilify (which I had been on for a good year or more). Turns out I can't afford risperdal, so she put me back on abilify (which is much more expensive than risperdal, but she provides me with samples).
My problem is that during this transition or whatever you want to call it, I keep going into horrible rages. I've screamed and yelled at people that may or may not have deserved it, I've thrown and broken things (including my 8 year old son's new birthday gift...thankfully I was able to fix it).
Just curious if there is anything you all can think of that can help me to get out of the rage when I feel it coming on? I've tried deep breathing, hot showers, journaling and attempting to remove myself from situations. But nothing seems to work! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Punch something, like a wall. Then you feel like an idiot for hurting your hand and usually logic kicks in.
I think I need to invest in a punching bag.
I need my head shrunk.
I found that physical activity helps me out alot....going for a walk to clear my head really helps...sometimes a stroll, sometimes a powerwalk. And meditation helps ALOT.....I'll put some soft music on, lay down, focus on my breathing because when you're focusing on your breathing and counting the breaths etc, it helps to slow down the racing thoughts....just some ideas that help me out when I feel like I am about to blow. oxox
have you tried extremely vigorous exercise...?
and...if you can't go outside...may i suggest investing in a small trampoline and an ipod with aggressive music on it?
when it's crappy outside and i have serious excess energy, my trampoline is a life saver!!
punching bag, good idea, too, though.
more expensive...but i have thought of that many times, too...
much love and luck!!
xx,
beep.
I give you your props big time - when I'm the most in crisis (depression) the last thing I do is reach out to others who could help me. Puts too much of a burden on my dh.
I can't stress enough how good they are at de-escalating me when I'm in a raging mania!
I mean holes kicked into walls..dishes smashing ,head banging rages.Always directed at my self.
I could not control these episodes on my own...I lack impulse control..Pdoc thought it put me in danger of myself...I'm on 750 Mg of Depakote..the only med I've been on (and I've been on them ALL)
That controls rage for me.
Sometimes a warm shower will forestall an episode if I feel one sneaking up on me.
I don't know why I let her get to me. She has issues, obviously. I need a peaceful place, to be calm and not around toxic jerks. Yes, to feel the rage inside ready to blow is so not fun. And to imbue someone with the ability to do that to you is a huge mistake. I am about to take some Klonopin.
