"outing" yourself

what is it about wanting to let it out?

sometimes i just feel compelled to tell ppl i have bp. do you feel the same about yours and when do you feel is the appropriate time? and do you feel that ppl will shun you?

I dont tell anyone bc Ive seen members of my family get treated differently. I was following the case of the Marine woman that was missing and found dead in NC. It made me furious when a news report made the comment that her step-Mom had said, "She has been known to lie and has Bipolar". It made it seem like this guy killing her and her baby was okay bc she told some lies and had BPD..But I am ashamed that I have it and dont want to tell others.

No being BP doesn't embarass me. And I don't hide it at all. If ppl have a problem with it, or me, they can ask questions. If they don't then they are the ones with the problem, not me.

I am not embarassed to have it but I know that people don't understand much about it. They have this major fear because of the way the media portrays people who have the illness. I usually feel people out for a while and if they disclose something similar to me then I feel I can trust them to absorb the information. I have told people too quickly and then they treat me completely different, like I'm an idiot or a child and they don't see me the same anymore. I want them to see how strong and resilient I am. We are some of the strongest people and I wish all people could see that and admire it instead of running scared because of the unknown. Anyway, that is my rant. Go with your instincts. The people that love you will accept it and those are the ones you should hold on to. HUGS M

The only person i would hide it from is my exhusband.I dont want him to try amd take my kids away from me.I have three angels and they are what keeps me going!I will not lose them!

you know what? outing my self has to do with fukking making sure i am isolatev from the world...... Ugggh.... where is the one that is worth my effort? I give up, fuck it....

Giggle!!!! When I started telling people I worked with, most of them wouldn't believe me, cuz I was always cracking jokes anyway!!!!!
That outing myself at work didn't work out to well. I lost my job. If I had it to do over again, I might have chosen not to share it!!!
They all thought I was pretty loony to begin with, although in a 'good' way!!!

I guess pretty much anyone that knows me, knows I have BP. And it isn't because its noticeable, because for most people I just look hyper when I am manic, except maybe slightly more irritable but I am good at hiding that. Its just because it is part of me. When I talk about myself I don't hide that I take meds or that I have issues, and like another poster said "If ppl have a problem with it, or me, they can ask questions. If they don't then they are the ones with the problem"
