I have Rhapsody on at work often to help with mood...but I'm needing some "grounding" and "focus" music to help me keep focused and not go off on other projects, etc...

Any suggestions?

i bought `food in the belly' by xavier rudd a while ago, and i find it extremely mellow, grounding, and positive `pick me up' music.

when i'm writing, and can't have words in my music, i find miles davis' `sketches of spain' to be my go-to `focus' album. also brazillian jazz like jorge ben and gilberto gil. it has lyrics, but i don't speak portugese, so doesn't influence my own writing.

I like chillout, ambient and space music. It can be kind of hypnotic sometimes but boy is it relaxing. You can go over to Hearts of Space website and hear some space music (which is very ambient) anytime. They also used to be on NPR syndicated on Tuesday nights. I am not sure anymore when or if they still are on there. But I also agree with Mojo about jazz. I listen to smooth jazz lots. Craig Chaquico is one of my favorites. Also this may sound odd but easy listening is another favorite when just setting the mood for an "easy" feel. I love Teicher and Ferrante..2 twin piano players popular several years back.

Thank you both!! Jazz takes me back to my grad school days in Chicago...I managed to get my degree so maybe it did help! Mojo's mention about needing to ditch the words while writing is helpful, because I'm always writing, or so it seems. Thanks again!

I like "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. He is I read bipolar. Kate Bush is such a lush dramatic singer. Her voice and his are so powerful. "Don't give up" is so very powerfully encouraging imo.

One album I know that always helps me to just relax and stay grounded is Massive Attack's Mezzanine. I listen to it almost every night just to fall asleep and stop my mind from racing :)

Just heard that studies show the most relaxing music is what you are already familiar with. Sound's like a rut a know, but then also makes sense, like comfort food.
