Hi All. When I'm hypomanic, halfway up the manic scale, I don't *feel* it except that I'm happy for a change. It seems as if that's how life should be--I feel "normal", it seems so anyway. But its not - I'm sleeping less - not enough actually. And my sex drive is waaaay up which is definitely not normal. I'm reading and researching like crazy on the computer and my Kindle. According to my pdoc, my BP NOS has become more like BP2 and I ultra rapid cycle so most of my life is depressed. Happy is welcome but I know from experience my hypo mania can excelerate. I take my meds faithfully. Over 5-1/2 yrs and trying all kinds of meds, getting my cycles down to every 2 to 3 weeks and the way they are is the best we can do so far. My pdoc and I haven't given up but this is where I'm at right now. My bipolar is stubborn and severe. The hypomania is a welcome relief but it also scares me. What do you do to assure it doesn't escalate out of control or is there anything that can be done. How do you protect yourself against what it might bring? I asked hubby to keep an eye on me but he can't always be home. Your input is greatly appreciated

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I hear you and completely sympathize!
However, I have decided what to do if I ever suspect that I am truly going manic again....I am going to bury myself in the back yard and not come out for 6 months.
(Then I'll have a Reallllllly long bath and pray it's over)
Hugggggs - we empathize :/
Medical intervention is usually needed to help stabilize an cycle asap....xo
My husband is also a helpful stabilizing influence. He has kept the credit cards when I'm "up" and the sharp objects when I'm "down". I do need to be honest and talk to him.
I have BP2, rapid cycling, anxiety, etc. Your desire to research constantly and feeling horny sound just like parts of my hypomania. I would get an idea and dig and dig. Convinced I would learn something new that would be helpful...pull all the pieces together. I learned a lot but got no where!
After a couple of years of rapid cycling and many severe depressions, my pdoc finally prescribed lithium. I started it for depression but it has evened me out greatly. You might want to talk to your pdoc about trying Lithium, if you haven't tried it yet.
Diet, avoiding caffeine, exercise, and avoidance of blue spectrum light for 12 hours a day(to keep body rhythms set and balanced) all help me.
Good luck!!! It is not easy to take care of yourself with BP. :)
