Does anyone take a prn that is not a benzo? I'm seeing my p doc this week and I'm going to ask for something for my anxiety. I've tried Valuim and Ativan in the past and both caused heart palps and shortness of breath so I'm guessing any other benzo would do the same thing. I've also tried Vistaril and Benadryl and both make me feel wired. I'm afraid I'm out of options.

this doesn't answer your question directly but have you thought of buspar? it's not a prn... you take it like any other med - continuously... but it is aimed at stopping anxiety before it gets a strong hold.. and the beauty of it is it is not a benzo thus neither sedating nor addictive

I also take Buspar. I take it nightly.

Although at first it never felt like it was helping much. I didn't realize how much it was helping , until I ran out.

Buspar is not a PRN, but it helps my anxiety

atenelol is a betablocker which can be taken for anxiety. talk to your doc about it. my daughter took it for a while and it kept her panic attacks at bay with no side affects.

It sounds like Buspar is a good option from what I've read. I was going to mention it myself because I have thought of switching and getting off the Ativan. Let us know what you and your doc come up with. Hugs GB

Hmmm I may try Buspar. My pdoc wont give me a prn for my anxiety as he says they are too addicting. I guess I should be glad that he is not just one of those docs who throws meds at you but sometimes when I am freaking out I really wish I had a prn for aniety! So Buspar I would have to get from him too?

Thanks for the comments. I'll mention these to my p doc. It's too bad I can't take my anti nausea med zofran for that. It calms me down when I take it.

I'm taking Gabapentin and really like it for anxiety... I went on too high a dose and it caused me some problems but on a lower dose it's great

I just learned this yesterday - sometimes the rate at which you take these meds can cause a lot of trouble too. I know you said
you took Ativan - my doc told me to be careful not to take it too randomly - he said - if you take it randomly and not in a kind of constancy it can cause some upheaval. Just food for thought. I hope you find a good solution.

I was given 25 mg of seroquel prn for anxiety, and it worked great.

I take Metoprolol for my anxiety and it works great.
