Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I just joined the group. A little about myself, I am in my early 30's with a BA and MA in Linguistics. I just got my California teaching credential. I've been married for 3.5 years.
Last year I went off of my medication, had a terribly horrible and devastating experience of extreme anxiety and got back on my medication. I'm in the middle of a move from southern CA to northern CA.
I am hoping to become pregnant this year and would like to hear from others diagnosed bipolar who have gone through pregnancy. For myself I am particularly concerned about the hormone fluctuations of pregnancy and the sleep deprivation of early motherhood. Also I know I will have to go off of lithium under the care of a doctor and am concerned about what might happen to my mind while unmedicated.

I understand your concerns. I had two of my children before being diagnosed so I was not on any medication at the time. Actually other then being very emotional(crying a lot for no reason) I did pretty well. With my last child I had to stop taking my medication which was harder then not being on any to begin with. That pregnancy was a bit harder to cope with because of the lack of meds and the anxiety of having two children to take care of all ready. Overall I would have to say the experience was interesting, but not bad. I just told myself I had to stay healthy and "in check" for the babys sake and that kept me going. Now I realize that having my children is still what keeps me going. On my worst days I look at them and they can make me smile. I wish you luck, becoming a mother is a wonderful thing. Take care.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
