Prednisone and depression?

I had pneumonia a couple of weeks back and I let the doc put me on prednisone along w an antibiotic. I have been off those meds for ten days and I have taken a major tailspin. I've had prednisone make me manic before, but I've never experienced this unrelenting depression because of it. I think it threw my very complicated med cocktail out of whack.

Saw my Tdoc today and she agreed to let me stay out of the hosp as long as I come back Thursday. I am pretty sure I am not a danger to myself or anyone else right now. I'm just really really sad. I see my pdoc next week and that is the earliest I can get in.

Has anyone else had this reaction with the depression?

Actually this is pretty common. Prednisone is listed to cause anxiety, depression, anger, irritability and emotional changes. I always have issues with anxiety while I'm taking it. So, if you know your predispositioned to depression associated with corticosteroids I would ask for something to help with the side effects. Have a great evening :)

Yes! I always have a bad reaction to pred, either up OR down... It can cause mood swings in "normies" so imagine what it does to us. The last time I was on it I became so irritated I was borderline violent and had to be hospitalized... it is now on the list along with the things I am allergic to... I will NOT take steroids basically unless I am dying.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
