Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I'm the mom of a 16 year old who is currently diagnosed with Mood disorder NOS, but who may have bipolar. She also has Asperger's and severe ADHD (ring of fire type.)
I've long ago noticed a distinct worsening of all symptoms during the luteal phase of her menstrual cycle. Life more or less comes to an end as we know it, and it can be downright dangerous when she rages during PMS time.
Has anyone used oral contraceptives to block ovulation with any success? I've avoided it so far but after today's incident (a 1 hour violent rage because she can't find her Ipod, I am really considering the issue), I am wondering if it is an option we should consider.
Any opinions?

Yes. I took seasonique for many years - this is a 90 day pill pack, so you only have one cycle every 3 months. It really helped me, and having fewer periods is a big bonus when you're a teen I think.

I think it would be most important to discuss this with her doctor.

YES! It helps a lot with the PMS in my experience.

Thank you for your input Halterbroke and SwordDancer. It makes me feel better about the whole thing. Anyone else have any experience positive or negative with this?

That was also an issue for me & it turned out I had PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) & they put me on the pill. It made everything worse. Then they put me on Ortho Evra (the patch) and it's been my life saver for YEARS. With most pills, if that's how you choose to go, you can run them all together and skip the sugar pill- and there is no need for a period. At least that's what my Gyno tells me. There is one pill for PMDD which might also help her more, as well. Hope this helps! x

Thank you, CrazyMadness. I have a call in with my daughter's PCP right now and will proceed from there. Yaz and Yasmin are specifically designed for PMS/PMDD, so I will see what the doctor recommends, if anything. I remember my days on "the pill" and how much trial and error it took to find the right one. Fingers crossed my girl finds some relief.
